Watch 8 minutes of Splatoon 2 on Nintendo Switch

New modes and attacks

Nintendo showed off the first look at Splatoon 2 for the Nintendo Switch during its Treehouse presentation today. It can be seen in the video above.

New attacks were all given special attention during the gameplay session which focused on Splatoon 2’s 4v4 player-versus-player mode, Turf War. In Turf War, players are tasked with covering the ground with as much paint as possible during a timed event. When time runs out, the team that has the most ground covered wins.

The gameplay session also showed off attacks like like Splash Sound and Curling Bombs, which are new to Splatoon 2. Splash Sound and Curling Bomb are special attacks that allow players to cover as much ground as possible when activated.

With the Curling Bomb, players can take a roller and approach an enemy to cause an explosion of ink when close enough in proximity. Splash Sound allows a player to execute a targeted dive bomb to help out a teammate. While in midair, players can choose where they want the Splash Sound bomb to go off, and as they land, an explosion of paint erupts, covering both enemies and the ground.

Nintendo also confirmed that Splatoon 2 takes place two years after the events of the first game. Although the team couldn’t give too much away about specific details, Nintendo did hint that fan-favorite characters could appear alongside new ones.

Splatoon 2 will be released this summer. The Nintendo Switch will be available to purchase on March 3 for $299. Pre-orders for the console went live last night at most major retailers, including GameStop, Target, Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart.
