Nature’s newest console, the Nintendo Switch, has been launched, reviewed and dropped repeatedly. If you’re still curious what’s going on inside, maybe take a gander at this, courtesy of iFixit Video, doing the dirty work of exposing the new console’s innards while leaving you with one still operational.
iFixit takes apart the tablet, the Joy-Con controllers and the dock to show Nintendo’s homework in full. Remember, we’re still talking about a mobile device with console power (and controller support) and then a docking station that makes that connection mindlessly easy. In other words, design isn’t just how it looks and interacts on the surface, it’s also in packing in the right equipment — without overheating the whole thing — into some rigid dimensions that are outwardly appealing.
The Nintendo Switch launched on Friday — at the end of GDC, of all things — and it may take a few months to judge its new influence on console gaming. One thing’s for sure, though, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is pretty effing good. If you don’t have a Switch yet, it’s available on the Wii U, too. If you have it, check out our guide.
