Square Enix’s Project Octopath Traveler coming to Nintendo Switch in 2018

A demo will be available to download in the eShop today

Square Enix’s new RPG for the Nintendo Switch is an eight-character “2D-HD” journey operating under the codename Project Octopath Traveler. The gameplay trailer that Nintendo showed today during its Direct can be seen above.

Nintendo first announced the game, which is being developed by the Bravely Default team, in January during the company’s one of the earliest Switch event. Each character is equipped with different skills that, according to Nintendo, will help them carve out their own paths as the story progresses. The story takes place in a world called Orsterra.

Like traditional RPG, players will use a turn-based combat system to take on enemies. Characters will have the chance to enhance certain abilities and take on different roles in group fights. Attention can be paid to healing or attacking, depending on what’s needed at that time.

Project Octopath Traveler will be released in 2018 worldwide, but a demo of the game will be available to download in the eShop following the Direct.
