The Nintendo Switch Lite sold 1.95 million units in its first 10 days on sale, according to Nintendo’s quarterly earnings report. If you’re wondering how good that is, the Nintendo Switch itself sold 2.74 million units in the first month it was available back in 2017.
Outside estimates at the time pegged the original Switch as selling 1.5 million units in its first 11 days. All of this means that the Switch Lite is moving off shelves as if it’s a new console, not just the different form factor of an existing one. On the whole, the Nintendo Switch line has moved 18 million consoles since launch, the company says.
The Nintendo Switch Lite launched Sept. 20, and seems to have consolidated Nintendo’s position as the only stop for video gaming that is more robust than a mobile phone and more portable than a full-on console. Our review in September said as much.
Elsewhere, the Switch is supported by strong software sales, though most of that is still from first-party titles. First-party developed Nintendo Switch titles accounted for 75 percent of the console’s software sales over the past six months, although that is down from the nearly 84 percent that first party sales accounted for in the company’s last fiscal year (which ended March 31).
Among the company’s best sellers, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening sold 3.1 million copies worldwide since launching Sept. 20. Super Mario Maker 2, which launched in June, also sold 3.9 million units worldwide. Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which launched in July, sold 2.29 million units.
The bottom line (literally): the company’s operating profit for the current fiscal year is up 53.4 percent from the same six-month period last year.
