Nintendo revealed that Super Mario Maker 2 is in development for Nintendo Switch during today’s Direct presentation. It will launch in June of this year.
The reveal came alongside a lovely trailer showing off the new tools for the Mario game-creation, uh, game. Not only do we see Mario venturing through various eras of Mushroom Kingdom, but we got a quick glimpse of Luigi also in a builder costume.
Super Mario Maker first launched on Nintendo Wii U in 2015. A Nintendo 3DS port followed in 2016, although it eliminated many of the most beloved features from the wonderful original, such as sharing levels online. We loved the Wii U original, naming it one of our top games of the year when it launched back in fall 2015.
We should expect to see more from Super Mario Maker 2 in the months ahead, and likely E3 2019, which also happens in June.
