Destroyman True Face boss battle guide: tips, tricks, and strategies — No More Heroes 3

In Polygon’s No More Heroes 3 boss battle guide, we’ll show you how to defeat the mass-produced Destroymen and Destroyman True Face. We’ll demystify each phase of this blast from the past battle by explaining each of the opponents’ attacks, showing you how to avoid taking damage, and sharing general tips, tricks, and strategies.

Mass-produced Destroymen

Unlike other boss battles in No More Heroes 3, your showdown against the mass-produced Destroymen robots has you battling multiple enemies at once. Thankfully, these robots are no more difficult than the opponents you face in Designated Battles.

Each robot attacks you independently with a slow-moving series of melee attacks. Their strikes are easy enough to perform perfect dodges against, so use their lack of speed to your advantage. The biggest threat these robots pose is a slow projectile attack that you can easily dodge.

To dispose of your opponents quickly, perform a Death Slow and Death Rain ability when they group together. This makes it easy to hit them while also passively damaging them with Death Rain.

The first wave of mass-produced Destroymen goes down pretty easily. The second phase has you battling four of them. After taking out the first batch of four new Destroymen, another set of four emerge. The biggest challenge is making sure to recharge your Beam Katana between your attacks.

After you defeat the Destroymen, you’ll move on to your boss battle against Destroyman True Face.

Destroyman True Face: Phase 1

In phase 2 of this encounter in No More Heroes 3, you’ll face off against Destroyman True Face. Much like his appearances in past No More Heroes games, Destroyman uses a series of superhero-inspired attacks.

At close range, Destroyman uses a punch combo, a spinning lariat, and a lightning uppercut. These are easy enough to dodge.

His two long-range attacks are harder to get away from:

• With Destroy Punch, Destroyman builds up energy and flies toward you at high speed. Run left or right to avoid getting hit.
• Destroy Cannon is a series of two energy orbs that lock onto you. Run around the battlefield to get away from them.

Destroyman True Face: Phase 2

After whittling Destroyman down to his second life bar, he continues the same attacks while adding two new abilities to his arsenal:

• Destroyman still uses Destroy Cannon, but this time he uses a modified version that is a large ball of energy that he tosses at you. Run left or right to avoid getting hit, while avoiding the ball of energy.
• His new attack is Destroy Buster, which is a powered-up laser that you have to run away from to avoid getting zapped by.
