In Polygon’s No More Heroes 3 boss battle guide, we’ll show you how to defeat Prince FU aka Jess Baptiste VI. We’ll demystify each phase of this climactic battle by explaining each of the boss’s attacks, showing you how to avoid taking damage, and sharing general tips, tricks, and strategies.
Prince FU: Phase 1
In the first phase of the boss battle against Prince FU in No More Heroes 3, he uses some basic attacks.
At close range, Prince FU either performs a three-hit slash combo or a grab which he follows up with a series of headbutts. The grab is dangerous, so dash backward when you see him attempt it.
At a distance, your opponent can perform a swiping attack that shoots gold spikes out of the ground or spikes made out of his hair. Keep moving to avoid these.
Unlike every other boss you faced before, Prince FU cannot be hit while he’s attacking. If you hit him while he’s in an attack animation, you get deflected by a purple forcefield. Any attack you perform gets deflected when the eyes on his body glow purple.
You must wait to attack Prince FU between his attacks. It’s safe to hit him when the eyes on his body are not glowing. Use Death Slow to make hitting him easier. While it’s difficult to harm him, he does stagger easily. Take advantage of this by throwing him as often as you can while he’s dazed.
Prince FU: Phase 2
In the second phase of the Prince FU boss battle in No More Heroes 3, your opponent uses massive energy attacks that you must run away from.
When your opponent bends over, run away. After charging up energy, Prince FU unleashes a few waves of energy. If you’re far enough away, they won’t hurt you. If your opponent jumps into the sky, create some distance again. While airborne, Prince FU charges up a large energy orb and tosses it at you.

In the final phase of the Prince FU boss battle in No More Heroes 3, your enemy only adds two new attacks.
- His first new ability starts when he leaps into the sky and stabs his hair into the ground. From there, red hair comes out of the ground and chases you around the battlefield. Run away from these until the attack is over. Prince FU also cannot be hurt with your Beam Katana during this attack, but you can use Death Rain to lay down some punishment while you wait out this move.
- The only other ability to watch out for is a teleporting strike. Prince FU crouches down quickly, and then teleports to your location with an overhead slash. It’s a hard move to dodge, so blocking is your best bet.
FU Dome: Phase 1
After defeating Prince FU in hand-to-hand combat, he transforms into a monster that engulfs you in a dome.

In the first phase of this section of the Prince FU boss battle in No More Heroes 3, you’ll be surrounded by a body horror kaleidoscope.
Prince FU’s main attack is summoning a massive arm that flies out of one of the many multicolor portals inside the dome. You’ll hear your enemy laugh before a hand appears. Keep spinning around, and use your eyes and ears to catch where the hand will come out from before it attacks.
Once an arm comes through, it stays inside the dome for a few moments. Attack the arms while they remain stuck inside the dome.
Predicting arms with portals
If you have trouble figuring out where the arms could appear, pay attention to the position of each portal. Between attacks, the portals move up or down. After each attack, spin around and make a note of which portals moved up or down. Hands will only come out of the lower portals.
If you attack the hands normally, this phase can drag on because the hands don’t stay out long enough to get many hits in. The key to defeating the hands is performing perfect dodges.
Once you understand how the arms spawn, it becomes easier to predict where and when they strike. Landing a perfect dodge on an attack allows you to whittle a large portion of enemy health away.

The second phase is just like the first, only this time, the arm that comes through is a lot bigger and slower. This makes performing perfect dodges much easier than the first section of this boss battle.
Swing your camera around to identify the potential portals that the arm will come through. Take advantage of the slower attacks in this section of the fight to quickly move onto the next phase.

In the third phase, black lasers come from the top of the dome. Dodge around them, and keep an eye out for attacks. The faster arms from the first phase return. Be mindful of the position of the black lasers while determining where arms will attack from.

In the final phase of the Prince FU boss battle in No More Heroes 3, the slower hand from phase 2 returns. You must predict where it will come from while dodging the black lasers from the previous phase.
