Outer Wilds guide: Follow the harmonica signal guide

Find the Dark Bramble seed on Timber Hearth

Jeffrey Parkin (he/him) has been writing video game guides for Polygon for almost seven years. He has learned to love just about every genre of game that exists.

After you visit the Attlerock in Outer Wilds, you’ll have a couple new rumors and hints about where to go next. This guide will follow Feldspar’s harmonica signal rumor. We’ll get a clue about why it seems to be coming from two places, but we won’t be able to solve the mystery yet.

After investigating the Attlerock, your ship’s log will look something like this. We’ll go look for Riebeck in a different guide, but let’s investigate that harmonica signal first.

Harmonica signal

From the Lunar Lookout on the Attlerock, your signal locator picked up Feldspar’s harmonica signal on Dark Bramble, but also back on Timber Hearth.

Hop back across to Timber Hearth in your ship. You’re looking for the smoking crater at the north pole. Land nearby, walk down, and talk to Tektite about the Dark Bramble seed there. He won’t have many answers, but he’ll hint that you could fire a scout inside.

Do that, and you’ll learn that the seed is bigger on the inside. You’ll also get a duplicate signal error from your scout — it seems to be both inside the seed and on Dark Bramble itself.

Inside the seed

If — and you don’t have to because we did it for you — you fly to Dark Bramble and follow Feldspar’s harmonica on your signal scope, you’ll head toward the center of the planet …

… where you get eaten by a gigantic anglerfish. (You saw a small example of one back in the Observatory on Timber Hearth.)

What have we learned? // What’s next?

We haven’t learned anything really concrete here, except that the Dark Bramble has some sort of teleporting ability. We can’t explore any deeper, though, because of the anglerfish.

Since there’s nothing else you can do here, let’s pursue the other rumors — specifically, finding Riebeck at the Southern Observatory on Brittle Hollow. (Conveniently, this will eventually give you a hint about how to deal with the anglerfish.)
