In the small Botanical Lab settlement of The Outer Worlds, you’ll hear about a missing girl: Zoe. Grace the sheriff wants to investigate, but then the rest of the town would be defenseless. It’s up to you to find poor Zoe and bring her home.
Here’s how to complete the A Few Kindred Spirits quest in The Outer Worlds.
Picking up the quest
You need 25 Persuade to finish this quest.
To get the quest, talk to Grace at the Botanical Lab. Grace is difficult to miss if you enter from the main road. She’s standing guard, just next to the Botanical Lab sign, and she’ll get your attention if you’re making your way in. She’ll mention a missing colonist. Inquire further, and you’ll pick up the quest.
Search Zoe’s Home for Clues
To find Zoe, you need to stop by her house and some journal entries. If you walk toward the Botanical Lab, turn left and walk into the house on the far end of the street.
You’ll know you’re in the right house if there’s a journal page on a table to your right. Read it, and you’ll instantly learn where Zoe went. Keep poking around the house if you want more information on Zoe’s thoughts.
To the east of the Botanical Lab, there’s a small settlement filled with marauders. Walk along the road past Grace, and go left when you hit the fork.
When you get to the settlement, you may find yourself overrun. Engage from a distance with your companion to whittle down the marauders’ numbers. If you want to walk in guns blazing, pick up the light machine gun from the Geothermal Plant or the Emerald Vale Community Center.
When you’ve killed all the marauders, approach Zoe — she’s in the middle of town.
Convince Zoe to Return
Talk to Zoe about why she’s here. She’ll explain that, actually, she loves the marauders and was just bored in town. She doesn’t really want to go back, but you can convince her it’s the right thing to do.
This is where your Persuade skill comes in handy. If you want to complete the quest, you must use Persuade on Zoe. If you don’t have that stat yet, complete more quests to level up before returning.
Return to Grace
When you’ve convinced Zoe to come back to the Botanical Lab, head back to Grace and tell her the good news. If you tell her the truth about Zoe’s reasons, she’ll barely believe you. But no matter what you say, Grace will hand you some bits and XP for your trouble.
