Jeffrey Parkin (he/him) has been writing video game guides for Polygon for almost seven years. He has learned to love just about every genre of game that exists.

You’ll pick the look of your titular Outrider in Outriders during character creation. After that, changing your character’s appearance is both easy and free. Maybe it’s just time for a new haircut, or maybe you want to change the whole shape of your face. In this Outriders guide, we’ll show you where to go to change your Outrider’s look.

What you can change and what you can’t

A quick note first: You can’t change your body type. When you pick the male-presenting or female-presenting body at the beginning, you’re locked in to that body type for this character.

Beyond that, you’re free to change your hairstyle and color, scars and piercings, head and face shape, eye color, and skin color.

On the lower level of the base camp, head past the vendor Gregor’s shop and into the room with the fast travel flag, stash, and restock crate. There’s a fourth crate on the west side of the room with a sparkly scissors icon.

You’ll see a prompt to open the crate and change appearance. You’re free to do this as often as you’d like, and there’s no cost associated with it. Opening this crate will pop up the same character customization screen (the one after body type) that you saw when you started Outriders.

As for your clothes, you’ll have to grind for better loot, and the best way to do that is playing at higher World Tiers.

The next level of puzzles.

Take a break from your day by playing a puzzle or two! We’ve got SpellTower, Typeshift, crosswords, and more.
