Breakout hit Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is still in early access and will remain there until later this year. That hasn’t stopped the developers at Bluehole from piling on features like new weapons and maps. Over the weekend we got the latest update on the much anticipated vaulting and mantling system and it looks surprisingly sophisticated.
Announced during this year’s E3 in Los Angeles, the vaulting system will allow players to access certain areas of the map for the first time. At the touch of a button you’ll be be able to climb over walls, scramble out on top of roofs and even leap through windows to safety. Where it could have the biggest impact, however, is in the game’s newly released first person-only mode.
When in first person, Battlegrounds becomes especially claustrophobic. In order to see around corners players have to put themselves at risk of being shot. But with the new vaulting mechanic it looks like you can begin a vault action and then cancel it. That could allow players to leap up and peek over terrain before dropping back down to safety.
Battlegrounds is already a fast game where split-second reactions make all the difference. This new vaulting system could be a game-changer.
The next update for Battlegrounds is expected at the end of this month.
