Capcom re-releasing Street Fighter 2 on SNES cartridge

Capcom is re-releasing the Super NES version of Street Fighter 2 in November to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary. The “brand-new, freshly manufactured limited edition” of the fighting game will be limited to a print run of 5,500 copies.

The re-release of Street Fighter 2 will come in a new box with a tri-fold design with “glistening foil sheen, delicately embossed texture, chic spot varnish,” according to iam8bit, which is currently taking pre-orders for the cartridge. The package will also include a restored version of Street Fighter 2’s original instruction booklet and secret “retro pack-in surprises.”

Street Fighter 2’s SNES re-release will come in two colors: 4,550 copies will be printed in red, designed to match Ryu’s headband; and 1,000 copies printed in translucent, glow-in-the-dark “Blanka green.” iam8bit says that those colors will be distributed randomly.

Capcom and iam8bit are charging $100 for the SNES cartridge, which is expected to start shipping sometime in late November 2017. Check out some shots of the packaging in the gallery below.

This is like I popped into one of the multiverses in Rick and Morty. Where SNES games are still released in 2017. Oooh.

This is kind of like those anniversary CD/tapedeck re-releases.

I wish this happened sooner.

that’s an instant cash grab that’s borderline necessity

Fuck you, Capcom.

The only thing I’m remotely buying form Capcom might be the new Monster Hunter, but next to that I’m pretty tired of their money grabbing. "Here’s some anniversary costumes for the fans, 4 bucks a pop please!", Screw that stuff, make enough content first.

Ye. No thanks.

This is pretty cool. I just wish it were a re-release of Super Street Fighter II instead.

They’ll re-release SSF II after this one stops selling. Capcom gotta keep milking that cow.

well since there is a limit of 5,500 and it’s being released by iam8bit not sure about any of your logic

wait…WHAT!? oh my GOD!

So collectors will try to get both versions of the same?

No thanks, still have my original one.

I remember begging my mom for SFII for months!

It’s a gorgeous cart but $100 seems absurd…the original cart and any number of HD Remixes or ports are about $10 each.

Excellent…just sold my SNES with all my old fighting game catalog 3 days ago:
Super Street Fighter II
Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat II
Killer Instinct
Samurai Shodown
Primal Rage
and a Ascii Fighter Stick to boot…

If I still had that I’d be honor bound to buy this. Phew.

I’m also pretty sure I remember the gate-fold picture from the Street Fighter II Turbo strategy guide. That book got wore out:

Damn, it’s not even the best version ! Fucking Capcom !
I have a better solution, 3D print a colored SNES cartrigue and put the oficial SNES rom inside (buy a used one in a retro-gaming shop), then stick a nice etiquette on it and VOILA ! You have you 20 box original NEW Super Street figther 2 Turbo plus alpha 3 EX redux !

I’d rather have the Anniversary Collection that’s been rumored to be coming out soon.

I’m guessing after everyone buys this they’ll have to shell out another $100 for the Turbo/Hyper Fighting release.

I don’t trust anything that iam8bit does.

Especially since this is a fire hazard. From their website:
"WARNING: Use of this reproduction game cartridge (the "Product") on the SNES gaming hardware may cause the SNES console to overheat or catch fire. The SNES hardware is deemed a vintage collectible, so please exercise extreme caution when using the Product and make sure there is fire extinguishment equipment nearby."

With the SNES being as old as it is, they are putting this warning out there to cover there asses. I don’t think it is being produced with this as a known issue in mind.

Their* woops lol

Sure, the cart may not be being produced with known issues, but iam8bit absolutely has known issues.

I think that is pretty sweet. I like having options. I hope other companies do this as well.

I’m not sure about these haters that complain about options, haha.
