Pokémon Go Fest 2018 attendees already have their own Celebi, the Johto region’s exclusive Mythical Pokémon. Players who weren’t able to attend this year’s live event will have their chance to capture it starting Aug. 20, when Niantic releases a special Research task that offers Celebi as a reward.
The developer is vague about what that challenge will include, saying only that it will require players to ... test their skills. Which, that’s nothing new. But if it’s anything like what those of us at Pokémon Go Fest had to do, expect it to take a good chunk of time to complete everything necessary to earn the right to capture Celebi.
It sounds like it will be unique from Pokémon Go Fest’s Research challenge, however, since it’s open to anyone who already completed the earlier set of tasks. Completing this version of the Celebi adventure will award initial participants with additional Celebi candy.
The one pre-requisite Pokémon Go players need in order to embark on their Research task is that they have to have finished the third set of challenges to collect Mew, the other Mythical Pokémon exclusively obtained through a Research challenge.
Johto’s rarest Pokémon made its debut in Pokémon Gold and Silver. It’s been one of the hardest Pokémon to find in mainline games ever since, so we hope you appreciate this opportunity to have a Celebi of your own.
