Civilization 6 coming to Nintendo Switch

Firaxis Games/2K Games

Historical turn-based strategy game Sid Meier’s Civilization 6 is coming to Nintendo Switch on Nov. 16, publisher 2K and Firaxis Games revealed today.

The Switch release of Civilization 6 will include the base game and four additional scenarios, according to the Civilization website: the Vikings scenario pack, Poland civilization and scenario pack, Australia civilization and scenario pack, and the Persia and Macedon civilization and scenario pack. The game features 24 different leaders, including Cleopatra of Egypt, Trajan of Rome and Hojo Tokimune of Japan.

Civilization 6 on Switch will support competitive and cooperative play for up to four players over a local wireless connection.

2K released Civilization 6 on Windows PC in 2016, and later brought the game to iOS, Linux and Mac. In our review of the original, we praised Civ 6 for “offering more variety, smarter use of assets and a wider palette of potential activities,” but remarked that it “fail[ed] to move the concept of a history simulation beyond the ambitions set 25 years ago.”
