Pokémon Go Trapinch Community Day guide: best movesets and start time

Flygon’s Shiny form is actually pretty dope

Trapinch sits in the desert sand Niantic

Trapinch’s Community Day in Pokémon Go takes place on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in your local time. During that time period, Trapinch will spawn at a heavily increased rate, with a chance to be Shiny.

Paired with its Community Day move, Earth Power, Flygon is a pretty good DPS. Flygon with Earth Power is considered a “discount Garchomp,” so might as well stock up on a couple.

How do I get a Shiny Trapinch?

Trapinch will spawn at a higher rate, so if you want a Shiny green Trapinch, just tap all the Trapinch you see. You’re bound to run into a Shiny one eventually, as the Shiny rate on Community Days sits at about one in 24.

What move does Flygon learn?

When evolved during the Community Day period, Flygon will learn Earth Power. You’ll have until 4 p.m. in your local time to evolve your Vibrava. If you don’t do it in this time, you will not be able to learn Earth Power on your Flygon through other methods.

How do I make the most of this Community Day?

This Community Day features tripled catch XP, so pop Lucky Eggs and catch as many pinchy boys as you can. Stocking up on a team of strong Flygons won’t hurt, as it’s a pretty solid ground-type attacker with Earth Power.

Use TMs to pair your Earth Power with Mud Shot and you’ll be set with a good ground-type. If you want a more neutral attacker and not a ground-type specific one, you can grab some extra Flygons and give them Dragon Tail and Dragon Claw. They’re far from the best dragon-type attacker, but they do OK damage.

If you’re deciding which Shiny Trapinch to evolve at the end of the day, try using one of the new search strings. Sort your ‘mons by “recent” using the lower right icon, then type “4*” in the search box at the top. This will let you know if you have any 100% IV Trapinch. Most people won’t be so lucky, so next you’ll want to type “3*” in the search box, which will show you any recent ‘mons that are 80% or above. Appraise these to see which one is best and then evolve your new buddy!
