Pokémon Go is having a special event to celebrate the release of the movie Detective Pikachu. Pokémon stars of the movie will be featured in raids, there’s special Field Research, and catch XP will be doubled.

With this event comes the release of Shiny Aipom and Ambipom, so keep your eyes out for a pink monkey.

Pokémon featured in the movie trailer are also spawning more frequently than usual. While this means you’ll be seeing more Psyducks, Snubbulls, and Pikachus, you’ll also be seeing powerful Pokémon like Ludicolo, Charizard, and Flareon on your radars. Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, Growlithe, Cubone, Lickitung, Eevee, Aipom, and Loudred also have boosted spawn rates for the duration of the event. If you’re playing in Europe, you’ll also notice more Mr. Mimes around.

Detective Hat Pikachu

To get Detective Hat Pikachu, simply snap some photos in AR+ mode. The Pikachu will appear, photobombing your snapshot and then will spawn on the overworld map shortly after. This is the same process used for Smeargle and the Ash Hat Pikachu.

Detective Hat Pikachu also spawns in the wild.

Detective Pikachu Field Research and Rewards List

One of the event Research Tasks can award Ditto, which is needed for A Mythical Discovery to catch Mew and Let’s Go, Meltan. The spawn is rare and definitely worth saving the encounter for when you need it.
