If you don’t have a Shiny Charmander, this is your chance

Pokémon Go is celebrating Charmander again with another Community Day.

The event takes place on Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. in your local time.

As usual with Community Day events, Charmander will be spawning in abundance during the six-hour time period, with a high chance to appear Shiny.

How do I get a Shiny Charmander?

Since Charmander will be popping up everywhere, just tap every Charmander you see until you get a Shiny one. You’ll find one sooner or later, as the Shiny rate on Community Days is boosted to about a one in 24 rate.

What special move does Charizard learn?

When evolved from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in your local time on Oct. 17, Charizard will learn Dragon Breath. Dragon Breath doesn’t do much for Charizard, but it is very good on its Mega Evolved forms.

How do I make the most of this Community Day?

Stardust obtained from catching Pokémon during the event period will be tripled, so if you have any Star Pieces, consider using them before going on a Charmander-catching rampage. Completing Field Research and Timed Research will also reward Charizard Mega Energy.

Regular Charizard’s best moveset for raiding and gyms is Fire Spin and the legacy move, Blast Burn. However, if you plan on Mega Evolving your Charizard, evolve it during the event to get Dragon Breath. Pair it with Dragon Claw to do quite a bit of damage.

If you’re deciding which Shiny Charmander to evolve at the end of the day, try using one of the new search strings. Sort your ‘mons by “recent” using the lower right icon, and then type “4*” in the search box at the top. This will let you know if you have any 100% IV Charmander. Most people won’t be so lucky, so next you’ll want to type “3*” in the search box, which will show you any recent ‘mons that are 80% or above. Appraise these to see which one is best, and then evolve your new buddy!
