Virizion is one of the Legendary Swords of Justice Pokémon in Pokémon Go’s tier five raids. In our Pokémon Go guide, we’ll list out Virizion’s weaknesses and best counters, as well as the best movesets to give it.
Virizion weaknesses and counters
Virizion is grass- and fighting-type, making it extremely weak against flying-type moves. It’s also weak to poison-, fire-, psychic-, ice-, and fairy-type moves. We recommend any of the following:
- Moltres with Wing Attack and Sky Attack
- Honchkrow with Peck and Sky Attack
- Rayquaza with Air Slash and Aerial Ace
To emphasize again: Use flying-type moves. If you have a powerful Mewtwo with Confusion and Psystrike, that will also work, but Virizion’s doubled-up weakness to flying-type moves make it hard to use anything else.
Windy weather will boost flying- and psychic-type moves, sunny weather boosts fire-type moves, snow boosts ice-type moves, and cloudy weather boosts fairy- and poison-type moves. Definitely take weather boosts into account, but again, nothing really beats flying-type moves in this raid.
Virizion best moveset
The best moveset for Virizion is Quick Attack with Leaf Blade, but we strongly suggest saving your TMs for something else. There are a lot of grass-types that out-damage Virizion, like Roserade, Sceptile, Venusaur, and even Leafeon.
Can Virizion be Shiny?

Lucky players may encounter a Shiny Virizion. If you do see a Shiny, it will catch on the first ball you hit it with, so use a Pinap Berry to score some extra candy.
