Pokémon Go’s Litwick Community Day is finally happening on Oct. 15 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time. This will be a great time to grab candy for Chandelure, a powerful fire- and ghost-type Pokémon, and find a Shiny Litwick for your collection.
Notably, some Timed Research will be available during the event that will reward you with up to five Unova Stones, which you’ll need to evolve Litwick into Chandelure.
You can also buy an optional Special Research ticket for $0.99 to unlock “Trick of the Light” and get more Litwick and candy.
How do I find a Shiny Litwick?
According to research conducted by Pokémon community site The Silph Road, Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few Shiny Pokémon.
If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Litwick to check for Shiny ones and run from any that aren’t Shiny. Notably, any Litwick you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.
What Community Day move does Litwick’s evolution learn?
If you evolve Lampent into Chandelure on Oct. 15 from 2-10 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the Charged Attack Poltergeist.
If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Poltergeist. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.
How does Chandelure do in the meta?
Chandelure is extremely powerful in PvE, as both a fire- and ghost-type attacker. Give it Fire Spin and Overheat for a fire-type moveset and Hex with Shadow Ball for a ghost-type moveset.
Chandelure is fine in PvP, but you’re probably better off using it in PvE content and investing in an entirely different Pokémon for PvP.
How do I make the most of Litwick Community Day?
The following bonuses will be active during Litwick Community Day:
- Tripled XP for catching Pokémon
- Doubled candy from catching Pokémon
- Incense lasts three hours
- Two Special Trades are allowed from 2-10 p.m.
- Doubled chance to get Candy XL
- Lure Modules lasts three hours
- Trades require 50% less Stardust
That said, you should definitely pop a Stardust and an Incense and try to nab as many Litwick as possible to power up the strongest Chandelure you can make.
If you can Mega Evolve Charizard or Gengar, you’ll score additional Litwick Candy per catch.
In addition to all this, Niantic is still running special four-star raids from 5-10 p.m., where if you clear the Lampent raid, Litwick will spawn in a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes. These raids cannot be done remotely. If the usual 2-5 p.m. spawn increase doesn’t get you the Litwick you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.
