Pokémon Go’s July Community Day will focus on Gastly and take place on July 19 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. in your local time.
Gastly won second place in a vote, losing out to Weedle, which had its Community Day in June. Gastly and its evolution previously had featured days before, though never a Community Day. Its Shiny form has already been released, but this is a good opportunity for players who missed out on previous events to nab one for their collections.
Evolving Gastly to its final form, Gengar, will give it the exclusive move Shadow Punch, which may make it a good contender in PvP. Distance to hatch eggs will also be cut down to a fourth of the usual amount and Incense used during the event period will last for three hours.
With the announcement of Mega Evolution coming to Pokémon Go soon, the need for Gastly and Gengar has increased. While it’s unknown if we’ll be able to mega evolve our currently-owned Pokémon or if we’ll have to catch special Mega Evolved forms, it won’t hurt to grab a couple strong Gastly beforehand. Mega Gengar’s Shiny form is objectively way cooler than the rest of the ghost-type’s Shiny forms, as it turns from deep purple to a stark white.
