Arcanine is the third Noble Pokémon you fight in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The powerful creature has become frenzied, and the only way to quell it is to pelt it with balms while dodging its deadly attacks. Our Pokémon Legends: Arceus boss fight guide explains Arcanine’s weaknesses, how to take on a Noble Pokémon, and even recommends some counters for the battle.
Hisuian Arcanine weaknesses and counters
Hisuian Arcanine is a level 36 rock- and fire-type, opening it up to a plethora of weaknesses. You can use water-, ground-, fighting-, or rock-type moves against it. Water- and ground-type moves will actually deal quadrupled damage.
Luckily, Cobalt Coastlands is filled to the brim with water-type Pokémon to use. Find Mantine, Finneon, Buizel, Piplup, and Psyduck roaming the beaches and waters to deal some massive water-type damage.
If you don’t have any counters and Arcanine is destroying your Pokémon, you can avoid fighting it altogether and just keep dodging and throwing balms.
Arcanine charges at you similarly to Kleavor, but due to the weird shape of the arena, it can be hard to avoid. (Don’t worry, you cannot fall into the lava.) Rather than standing to the sides of the area, bait it to run towards the middle, so it will end up on the opposite side. It also charges up fireballs, but it will withhold the attack if you throw balms at it.
At one point during the fight, the middlemost part of the arena fills up with flames, becoming unusable. Continue to bait Arcanine to dash across the arena (rather than into corners) to give yourself more space to dodge.
How do I fight a Noble Pokémon?
Each Noble Pokémon fight follows the same mechanic. You need to throw provided balms at the Pokémon to calm it down. While you’re tossing balms, dodge telegraphed attacks. Pay attention to both the Pokémon and the ground around you for signs of incoming attacks.
Periodically, the Noble tires itself out, creating an opening for you to throw in your Pokémon to battle. If you knock it out, it becomes temporarily stunned, and balms soothe it faster. However, you can complete an entire Noble Pokémon encounter without ever battling it, if you would rather just throw balms and dodge.
If the Noble knocks you out, you can restart the battle completely or from a checkpoint.
