Pokémon Sword and Shield guide: Where to find TRs

Nab them from Watt traders or from doing Max Raids

A menu in Pokémon Sword and Shield prompts the player to buy a handful of TRs in exchange for Watts Game Freak, The Pokémon Company/Nintendo via Polygon

Pokémon Sword and Shield introduces a new item: TRs, also known as Technical Records.

While TRs might be new in name, these essentially just do what TMs used to do back in older Pokémon games. They teach your Pokémon moves, but break after one use.

Competitive players seeking out certain moves are going to want TRs, as moves like Stealth Rock and Swords Dance are no longer TMs — they’re now elusive TRs.

TMs can still be used infinitely and are entirely different items, though they’re both represented as discs ingame. A TR is a black disc and a TM is a more glossy, shiny disc.

TRs can be bought from Watt traders around the Wild Area, but the most common way to grab them is from completing Max Raids. Raid Pokémon have a chance to drop specific TRs. Serebii does a great job listing out where they are.

Check out a full list of what each TR is and what the moves do below.
