Pokémon Go event will make it easier to encounter Totodile, Squirtle and more

The event will only run for a week

Niantic Labs announced today that certain water-type Pokémon, including popular starter Pokémon like Squirtle and Totodile, will be a little bit easier to encounter in Pokémon Go starting today.

As part of Water Festival, Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile and other water-type Pokémon have been made more accessible by the team at Niantic. This means if you live in an area that isn’t close to water and have had more difficulties encountering the aforementioned Pokémon, spending more time in-game over the next week will increase your chances.

For those who do live close to water and regularly encounter water-type Pokémon, Niantic confirmed players will have a greater chance of coming into contact with several of the new, water-type Pokémon discoverable in the Johto region. Niantic also teased that players may come across Lapras, a first generation ice/water-type Pokémon, which has become known for its rarity in the game.

Additionally, players will be able to equip their avatar with a new wardrobe item celebrating the festival: a Magikarp hat.

This is the perfect time for players to try and fill up their Pokédex with the recent additions Niantic brought to the game last month. The studio added more than 80 second generation Pokémon, with all of the Johto Pokémon now available in the wild.

The limited-time event kicks off at 4 p.m. ET and will end on March 29 at 4 p.m. ET.
