Pokémon: Let’s Go synced up with the original theme song is full of nostalgia

I’m not crying, it’s just very dusty in here

Pokémom: Let’s Go high-five Game Freak/The Pokémon Company

Pokémon: Let’s Go! comes out today, taking us back to Kanto for the first time since HeartGold and SoulSilver in 2010 — and the first full Kanto adventure in 14 years. Naturally, the nostalgia is overwhelming. The games follow the path of Pokémon Yellow, though there are some key differences and updates for Nintendo Switch. Still, the heart of the game is that it takes us back to where it all began.

With the Kanto setting and the appearance of some beloved characters, we can’t help but think of the original anime and its iconic theme song. And we’re not the only ones. The official Pokémon Twitter released a video mashing up footage from Let’s Go! with the original American theme song, following the scenes as closely as possible.

Are there tears in your eyes? That’s OK. We’re all getting a little misty-eyed watching this. There’s our little trainers riding their Arcanine and Rapidash, just like Ash does. There they are bonding with their Partner Pokémon. Hearts overflow, eyes get even mistier, there’s a strong urge to sing along: You’ll teach me and I’ll teach you~

Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! and Let’s Go, Pikachu! are out today on Nintendo Switch. Check out our review to find out if these console exclusives make the jump from handhelds.
