Alongside the reveal of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield for Switch, Game Freak introduced the new generation of Pokémon games today, which of course means one thing: There are three more starters to add to the compendium. Meet Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Per usual, each monster represents the main starter elements — grass, fire, and water.
Grookey, the grass type, is described as a mischievous, curious chimp; Scorbunny, the fire type, is highly energetic; and Sobble, the water type, is more of a timid lizard that likes to hide. Together, your pals will join you in exploring the Galar region, which appears to be more modern than other settings in the series. According to Game Freak, the area is industrial, but will also feature locales such as the “countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains.” These regions will of course house more new Pokémon that weren’t showcased during today’s Direct presentation.
While no specific release date was given, fans can expect the new Pokémon games to drop in late 2019 for the Nintendo Switch. Accordingly, the games seem to take advantage of the Switch’s graphical power — the announcement trailer showcasing the 3D landscapes is gorgeous.
We are still months away from the release, but fans are already picking favorites. Judging by a poll, it seems that most people will be picking the fire bunny later this year:
Now that you’ve met our new starter Pokémon, which will you choose to accompany you on your journey across the Galar region?
