A couple of years ago, we covered a really well-made video that documented Pokémon as if they were real animals in a National Geographic-like documentary. Since then, the genre has really taken off on YouTube. A recent upload is all about Doduo and it’s too good not to share.
You will believe a Doduo can fly in this Pokémon riff on Planet Earth
When will Silicon Valley do something good like make Pokémon real
The fifth video in EnlargedKai’s Pokéarth series follows a flock of Doduo as they migrate across a massive desert in search of cooler climes. When a solitary Doduo strays from the safety of the colony, Pokéarth is there to dramatize how it might protect itself from predators, combining hard data from the series in-game Pokédex with a great extrapolative imagination.
As any Pokémon fan worth their salt should know, Doduo makes up for its lack of wings with powerful legs and a second head. Sadly, the strange bird’s speed is removed from the equation when a pair of predatory Sandile ambushes it, forcing the Doduo to resort to extraordinary measures to escape. I’m torn between describing exactly what happens and letting the video speak for itself, but I think spoiler-free is the best way to experience this absurd animation.
Before setting their sights on Doduo, EnlargedKai previously produced Pokéarth installments about Clodsire, Magikarp, Spheal, and Wailord, all of which took great care in showcasing what makes each Pokémon unique and injected a bit of humor to ensure the portrayals weren’t totally dry and straightforward. I have enjoyed every one, especially the slow, bouncy blows traded by two male Clodsire fighting over a mate. But I said it before and I’ll say it again: Koffing, please.
