The Police Station is where Resident Evil 2 really starts. What you’ll do in the next hour or so is a template for the rest of the game.
Your first task is to explore the Main Hall and the area to the east of that.
Objective: Explore your surroundings
Now that you’re inside the Police Station, toward the desk. Grab the First Aid Spray on a green box to your left. Grab the Handgun Ammo near the Typewriter and visit the Item Box if you want (or if you have any preorder bonus items you need to grab). Make sure you either store or discard the Key from the gas station at this point. You can’t use it anywhere else and it’s just taking up valuable inventory space.
When you’re ready to move on, visit the Typewriter to save your game. Turn to the RPD laptop next to the Item Box and interact with it to find out where you should go next.
Objective: Investigate the East Side
From the desk, head back toward the front door. At the door, turn left to face the east side of the building and the shuttered hallway with the big “KEEP OUT” sign. Use the button on the left to open the shutters enough to crawl through.
You can’t do anything with the Fuse Box on your left and the first door you come to on your right is locked, so just keep walking forward to the end of the hall and turn right. When you come to the cabinet blocking the hall, turn left and go through the doors there.
Look for the red light on the wall ahead and a little to the right to turn on the lights in here. Search the body on the floor to grab some more Handgun Ammo. The only other door out is locked, so head back through the door you just came through.
Back in the hallway, shove the cabinet out of the way. Take the first hallway on your left toward the bathrooms and head into the women’s room. The middle stall has some more First Aid Spray sitting on the toilet. Grab it, then head back out to the main hallway.
Continue the way you were going (take a left, then follow the hall to the right). Ignore the dead bodies for now and loop around to the left. Head through the door to get to the Watchman’s Room. Open the shutters to “rescue” Officer Elliot and take the Officer’s Notebook from him.
Objective: Return to the Main Hall
When you go to leave the Watchman’s Room, you’ll get jumped by a zombie officer. Deal with him, then head back out through the door you came in.
As you return to the Main Hall, you’ll run into a few new zombies, so it’s not a straightforward trip. Save ammo where you can, but don’t count on being able to run past zombies in these narrow hallways.
Follow the desk around to the right and into the hallway. Take the left and keep running straight. A pair of zombie civilians will appear at the next corner. Put them down, then loop around to your right.
There’s a new room open here. Duck through the door to the room to the west of the Press Room. There’s a zombie inside. Put him down, and collect the Wooden Boards and the Handgun Ammo inside.
Back outside, take a left and head down the hall. When you see the stairs, you’re in the right place. Duck back under the shutter to return to the Main Hall.
Objective: Find a way to get underground
Now that you’ve got the Officer’s Notebook, you’ve got a new goal. There are a lot of steps involved in that, though.
If you want, go hit the Item Box and Typewriter, but it’s not necessary — we’re not going far yet and there’s no danger.
Head up the stairs next to the Goddess Statue. While you’re up here, loop around to the left. Run all the way to the end of the balcony and grab the Handgun Ammo off the bench on your right, then return to the back of the statue.
There’s another statue here of a lion. You may recognize it from the Officer’s Notebook. Check the second page of the notebook for the answer. Enter the three symbols from beneath the drawing of the lion statue — lion, branch (or sprig or leaves or whatever you want to call it), and eagle (or bird or whatever) — into the statue’s base. You’ll receive the Lion Medallion.
Take the medallion back down to the Goddess Statue and place the medallion into the base of the Goddess Statue to start the process of finding a way out.
