Resident Evil 2 Claire [2nd] run walkthrough Part 5: Sewers and G (Phase 2)

The Sewers from beginning to end

Resident Evil 2 Claire [2nd] run Sewers and G (Phase 2) walkthrough Capcom via Polygon
Jeffrey Parkin (he/him) has been writing video game guides for Polygon for almost seven years. He has learned to love just about every genre of game that exists.

After you escape from the Tyrant and take the elevator down, you’ll see a cutscene. You new goal is to find Sherry — conveniently, she’s in the same place that Ada collapsed in Leon’s campaign. Let’s go rescue her.

We’re going to condense the entire Sewers into one walkthrough here. It’s long, but the 2nd run with Claire is basically identical to your previous run with Leon.

The Office

In the room where you regain control, pick up the Submachine Gun Ammo on the crate. Open the nearby door and head into the Office.

Read the Report: About “G” document by the whiteboard. There’s a Typewriter and an Item Box here, too. Grab the High-Powered Rounds — this is ammo for an upgraded SLS 60 so you can’t use it quite yet — on the desk in the east side of the room.

Lower Waterway

Head back out onto the metal walkway and jump down on the right side. Follow the sewer to the end and drop down into the Lower Waterway — you probably recognize where you are now. Turn left and follow along to the Workroom Lift door (that you can’t open yet). Pick up the Blue Herb and drop back into the water.

Keep following along and collect the High-Grade Gunpowder (White) sitting on a pile of sludge on your left right before the closed gate.

Continue along, then climb out of the muck on the left. Follow the hall and open the door at the end of the hallway.

Control Room

Climb the stairs and ladder through the Cable Car Platform and head into the Control Room. There are three zombies in here, and they tend to gang up on you. Use your SMG to take out their legs to make them much more manageable.

There’s a Copy of Emails to Umbrella HQ document on a table. Pick up the Flame Rounds on a chair against the wall. The Dial Lock on the locker is still the same, so enter SZF to grab some Submachine Gun Ammo.

Jump down through the hole in the corner twice, and watch the cutscene.

Monitor Room

There’s a Typewriter and an Item Box in this room. Do a loop to collect the following:

  • Large-caliber Handgun Ammo on a chair along the north wall
  • Sewers Company Pamphlet
  • Sewers Map on the south wall by the door

In the U-Area, grab the Unlocking the U-Area Door note. You’ll also find that the clue is different this time:

The rook’s next to the knight but not facing the queen. The king ain’t next to the queen, but facing the knight, right at the end, and the knight ain’t where the case marking says.

Leave the pieces for now — we’ll deal with rearranging them when we get back. Equip your SLS 60 if you don’t have it on you.

Treatment Pool Room

Head through the door and pull the switch to lower the bridge.

Cross it, and turn left. Follow the walkway and pick up the Red Herb, T-Bar Valve Handle, and Delivery Receipt (the code on the safe is the same).

Head back to the bridge and go right this time. Take out the slumped zombie, then grab the Blue Herb.

Open the safe with the combination written on the side — Left 2, Right 12, Left 8 — for a Reinforced Frame (SLS 60). Combine that with the gun, and you can fire those special high-powered rounds.

Treatment Pool Room

Back on the southern side of the room, exit through the door with the exit sign above it.

Head slowly down the stairs while aiming your gun. Kill the two zombies waiting for you below.

Collect the Green Herb along the right wall.

Pull the lever along the right wall to open the gate and create a path to the Lower Waterway, where you came in.

Jump down into the sewage and head left to grab the Hand Grenade sitting along the left edge.

Head through the gate and sprint along the sewer. A G-Adult will pop out of the pipe on your right. Stick to the left and sprint past, then jump up onto the ledge. Use the T-Bar Valve Handle to open the door.

Workroom Lift

Pick up the High-Powered Rounds sitting on a barrel to your left. Take the elevator up.

Workroom

The zombie lying on the floor is just playing dead. This is a great opportunity to use your SLS 60 and its High-Powered Rounds to shoot it in the head.

Loop around the Workroom to collect:

  • Roll Film (Hiding Place) on the table in the middle of the room. You’ll need this to get those extra toys in the Police Station even if you already know where they are.
  • Hip Pouch at the north of the room
  • Large-caliber Handgun Ammo at the south of the room

Unlock the door and head out onto the catwalk overlooking the Lower Waterway.

Workroom Hallway

Kill the enemies gathered there. You can eliminate each of the four zombies with a single headshot from your SLS 60 using High-Powered Rounds.

Follow the walkway to the right and head down the stairs.

Upper Waterway

Collect the U.S.S. Digital Video Cassette from the special ops soldier’s corpse at the bottom of the staircase.

Drop into the sewage and head left. Another G-Adult will pop up here.

When you hit the Y-intersection, turn right to go grab some High-Powered Rounds. Turn around and head back to the main waterway to keep heading west.

Duck into the dead end on your left. On a pile of garbage at the southern end, you’ll find some Large-caliber Handgun Ammo.

Back at the end of the Upper Waterway, and use the T-Bar Valve Handle to open a path back to the Lower Waterway.

Back to the Lower Waterway

Take the stairs down. You can skip the Sewers Key for now — we’ll grab it on the way back.

Follow the walkway around, and use the T-Bar Valve Handle once again to create a shortcut back toward the Monitor Room. You should be able to drop the T-Bar Valve Handle at this point.

Bottom Waterway

Climb down the nearby ladder, and collect the Green Herb next to the corpse.

Climb up onto dry land, and then back down into more sewage.

You’ll need to fight three more G-Adults and one vanilla zombie along the way to the Supplies Storage Room.

Hug the left wall and head into the first alcove, where you’ll find Submachine Gun Ammo on a ledge against the wall.

Take the door at the western end of the room.

Head up the stairs, and stop. Turn to your left, and shoot the Mr. Raccoon toy on the ground (if you didn’t get it as Leon).

Walk through the door into the next room, collecting the Red Herb on the shelf to your right. Walk down a second set of stairs and search the area for a Blue Herb sitting in a cardboard box.

In this room, you’ll find Plug Sockets for the Queen Plug and the King Plug. In one, you can collect the Queen Plug. There’s also a Locked Door.

Here’s how to solve the puzzle:

  1. Take the Queen Plug from the Plug Socket it’s in (which will close the door).
  2. Put the Queen Plug into the other Queen Plug Socket (which will open a door).
  3. Deal with the zombies in the area. One or more might spring to life. If you don’t kill them, one can grab you at the end of the next step. Better to just take care of them now.
  4. Walk up the stairs, and collect the King Plug from the socket. Jump down into the room below.
  5. Put the King Plug into the socket near the staircase, and enter the room to collect the Spark Shot.

Now you need to leave with both plugs, so:

  1. Unlock the door in the room where you got the Spark Shot. (That creates a path to the stars that you’ll take out, but you’re not done yet.)
  2. Remove the King Plug. (That’ll close the door.)
  3. Remove the Queen Plug. (That’ll close the door.)
  4. Put the Queen Plug in its other socket to create a path to the stairs that get you out of here.
  5. Put the King Plug at the base of the first staircase you descended when you got into this room.
  6. Remove the Queen Plug.
  7. Exit through the door where you put the King Plug.
  8. Remove the King Plug.

Now that you’ve got both in your inventory, you can head back.

Backtrack to the ladder, but beware: There’s one more G-Adult right before the ladder.

Make sure you grab the Sewer Key at the top of the ladder.

Water Injection Chamber

Turn right at the top of the ladder and loop around through the gate you opened earlier. Take the stairs up to the Y-shaped room, then head through the gate back to the Workroom Lift. Take the lift up and continue through the Workroom. Take the left at the Rook Plug bridge.

Use the Sewers Key on the northern door to enter the Water Injection Chamber. Pick up the Gunpowder (Large) and the High-Grade Gunpowder (White) on the table inside.

Now head out of the room to the other locked door. Pick up the Rook Plug along the way.

Workers’ Break Room

Use the key to enter the room. (You can discard the key now.)

Collect:

  • Gunpowder on the desk in the middle of the room
  • Large-caliber Handgun Ammo in a locker
  • The Raccoon City Jazz Festival Flyer on the desk in the middle of the room (for the Control Room locker combination, which we already had you open above).

Interact with the filing cabinet covered in yellow tape to move it and reveal an entrance to an elevator (or lift, if you prefer).

Take the lift up, and collect the High-Powered Rounds sitting on a white paint can in the room.

Take the stairs up, and unlock the door.

Underground Stairs

This is the area where you first entered — the bottom of the staircase. The Special Weapons Case is here. (Use the STARS Badge with the USB key retracted if you didn’t get it earlier.) Continue up to the Secret Room.

At this point, you can make your way through the West Office back to the Darkroom to develop the Roll Film: “Hiding Place” (Key Item) that you picked up earlier. You’ll get two pictures.

Take the stairs right outside up to the second floor then loop through the Shower Room around to the STARS Office.

Go to the office within the office, and open the drawer in the desk there. You’ll receive the High-Capacity Mag (MQ 11), which extends the clip capacity of your SMG to 50 rounds.

Head back out to the hall and turn left. Go through the Lounge and Library, then down the stairs in the Main Hall. Head into the east hallway to the Press Room.

Open the drawer in in a table to the left of the podium with the microphones to get some Needle Cartridges.

Back to the Monitor Room

Head back to the Main Hall and down to the Secret Room. Take the two elevators all the way back down to the Workers’ Break Room.

Take a left when you exit the Workers’ Break Room, and go down the stairs. Follow the Upper Waterway to the end. Go down the stairs, then loop around to the right and head back up to the Y-shaped room.

Go up the stairs and cross the bridge back to the Monitor Room.

Monitor Room

OK, we’re back in the Monitor Room with all the Plugs you need.

Here’s the clue again:

The rook’s next to the knight but not facing the queen. The king ain’t next to the queen, but facing the knight, right at the end, and the knight ain’t where the case marking says.

Facing the bulletin board and desk, place the plugs in the new order.

On your left, from left to right, place the plugs: Queen, Bishop, King (in the case marked Knight).

On your right, from left to right, place the plugs: Knight, Rook, Pawn.

Downstairs

Head down the stairs and pick up the Blue Herb. The door on your right is locked, so head in the opposite direction and pick up the Green Herb in front of you.

Pull the Garbage Collection Room Lever next to the doors labeled WASTE DISPOSAL, and you’ll learn that the power’s out. Head through the other door.

Main Power Room

Pick up the Red Herb on the ground. Interact with the Switchboard. (You can combine the three herbs you just picked up to create a Mixed Herb that buffs your health temporarily, which is really handy for fighting G.)

The idea is to get the power up into the red. Our solution was to flip switches 2, 3, and 4 from left to right, but your game might be different.

G will return as G (Stage 2). Run around the room doing your best to avoid his gigantic hand and the fire.

Proposed Water Purification Room – G (Stage 2) boss fight

In the area, you’ll find Large-caliber Handgun Ammo, a Combat Knife, a Flash Grenade, and Submachine Gun Ammo.

Knock G (Stage 2) down here, and then bring the crane back Capcom via Polygon

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Interact with the control panel to move the crane off the platform you’re on.
  2. Avoid, shoot, or throw a grenade at G (Stage 2) to knock him down at about the middle of the platform you’re on.
  3. Interact with the control panel to return the crane.
  4. Wait for the crane hit him.

It’s simple conceptually. It’s annoying practically.

You can use the Flash Grenade to cause G (Stage 2) to stutter. Or you can fire with the SMG indiscriminately. You don’t have to shoot his eye. He’ll go down eventually.

Just make sure don’t shoot him until the crane is docked away from where you’re standing. You want to shoot him, stagger him, and immediately bring the crane back to hit him.

Do that twice, and you win.

Do a loop around the area to collect everything that you haven’t.

Find Sherry

Use the wreckage to cross off of the platform and climb the stairs back up toward the Garbage Room. Throw the switch to find Sherry, then watch the cutscene.

Objective: Head to the Lab

Carry Sherry to the Cable Car. Go through the Monitor Room and out onto the bridge. Take a left and head over to where you got the T-Bar Valve Handle earlier. Board the cable car, then pull the lever.

The next level of puzzles.
