At this point in your 2nd run through Resident Evil 2, Claire just answered the phone in the Chief’s Office. At that point, you’ll swap bodies to play as Sherry for a while. There’s not a ton to do here in the Orphanage, but it can be a little confusing. In this guide, we’ll show you the puzzle solution and where to hide.

Escape from Chief Irons

Take control of Sherry. Pick up the Stuffed Doll (Key Item) from the rocking chain, examine it, and collect the Picture Block inside.

Combine the Picture Block with the puzzle on top of the toy chest. Solve the puzzle matching the pieces on each side and the top. Then collect the Scissors.

Use the scissors on the tape surrounding the cardboard on the wall.

Go into the next room and into the hallway. Read Sally’s Diary on a table in the corner.

At the end of the hall, pull out the dresser drawer. Climb up onto the dresser and through the window into the next room — the Nursery. The door to the north is locked, so take the door to the east.

In the Front Hall, take the stairs down. Read Tom’s Diary on the table in the library. The front door is locked, so head through the door in the west.

Go through the hallway into the Director’s Room. You’re safe here for now, so just avoid all the creepiness and walk around the pool table. Take the key from the wall over the desk on your right. That will trigger a cutscene.

Run back up to the Nursery (where you just came from) and crouch through the toy block archway on your left. Duck down with the left trigger on your controller. There’s a chair and a rolling cabinet in the small open area.

Keep that furniture between you and Chief Irons so he doesn’t spot you. Avoid the flashlight beam, and keep circling around the furniture to avoid him.

Eventually, the chief will get angry and shove one of the cribs toward the back of the room. Stay hidden, because he’ll come back. Just stick close to the cabinet so he doesn’t spot you.

After a lot of yelling and threats and swears, he’ll get angry because of his face problem and head to the bathroom. When he does, go toward the back of the room where he shoved the crib and follow him around to the bathroom. You can stand up and move quick here without him noticing.

Grab the Orphanage Key from the door where he left it.

Backtrack around the Nursery, then head back down to the Director’s Office (where you found Chief Iron’s earlier) and watch the cutscene play out.
