After escaping Resident Evil 3’s Nemesis (spoiler: for now) in the Subway Station, your next task is to navigate and escape Raccoon City’s Sewers.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the area and point out any items or collectibles along the way. We’ll make our way through the Lower and Upper Waterways of the Sewers, and end when we reach the Demolition Site.
Objective: Find a way above ground
Exit the Manager’s Office, and turn left. Follow the walkway past the dogleg, and take the first left you come to (right after you hear the creepy roar).
Go down the stairs and slide down the ramp to the Lower Waterway. As you walk forward, watch for a Hand Grenade along the right side of the sewer.
Sewers to Office
Walk forward (south) all the way to the hall leading to the Office. A giant, pale, zombie-monster-thing called a Hunter Gamma will pop out of a side pipe. It’s slow, but it can kill you instantly if it grabs you. Keep backing away, and aim for its gaping mouth. The Handgun works, but the Shotgun is much better here.
Keep following the sewer to the Office.
Pick up the Research Assistant’s Logs, Invoice from Gun Shop Kendo, the MGL Grenade Lanucher, and the Explosive B.
Sewers to Lab
Head back to the sewer and go north. Take the first left you come to. There’s another Hunter Gamma in the way. Pull out your new Grenade Launcher and wait for it to open its mouth. A single shot will put it down (after it really milks its death scene).
When you reach the T-intersection, take the right — it’s hard to see behind a sewer waterfall. Smash the crate for some Gunpowder. Head to the dead end for some Shotgun Shells and to read the Sewer Worker’s Notes.
Backtrack to the intersection, and take the other branch to the west.
Keep walking forward until you spot another Hunter Gamma, and kill it with another Flame Round from your Grenade Launcher. Pick up the Flame Rounds along the right side of the sewer.
As you approach the Lab, look behind the grate at the end of the tunnel for a Charlie Doll.
Climb the ladder and head into the Lab.
Inside the Lab, there are several things to pick up, but your inventory is probably maxed out (ours was). You can safely run back to the Office if you need to empty out some supplies.
Here’s what to pick up and how to combine them to keep your inventory (mostly) clean:
- High-Grade Gunpowder
- Pick the locked locker for some Explosive A, and combine that with the Explosive B from earlier for some more Flame Rounds. (The Grenade Launcher has a big magazine, so reload it once you make them.)
- Get the Gunpowder out of the other locker. High-Grade Gunpowder and Gunpowder makes Shotgun Shells, which stack.
- Get the Green Herb from the floor in the back corner, and add it to the Red Herb from earlier
- A Love Letter? from the desk
- Pick the Battery Pack up last since it takes up two slots.
Sewers to Upper Waterway to Security Room
With the Battery Pack in hand, head all the way back to the north where you slid down into the Lower Waterway. Take out the Hunter Gamma that jumps at you, and then climb the ladder along the left side to the Upper Waterway. Follow the stairs up.
Use the Battery Pack to unlock the door on your right. Follow the hall around to the left. Another Hunter Gamma, another Flame Round.
Turn left and unlock the gate in the southwest corner of the room. Head down the stairs to retrieve the Battery Pack.
Use it to unlock the door to the Security Room. Grab the Explosive A, Hip Pouch, and Gunpowder from the desk.
Head back outside and grab the Battery Pack again. Continue west along the catwalk, and kick down the ladder. (You’re safe to head back to the Sewer Manager’s Office Safe Room if you need to.)
At the bottom of the ladder, turn right. Read the Increased Sewer Security note on the wall, and use the Battery Pack to open the door.
Go about halfway up the staircase, and then turn around. There’s a Charlie Doll right over the door.
Keep heading up the stairs.
Objective: Escape the creature
When Nemesis returns, start running. Dodge the zombies, and duck under the gate into the Demolition Site. Cut straight across the room toward the door.
In the safe room, head into the attached room to the right of the Typewriter for some Explosive A and a Green Herb.
Combine the Explosive A with the Explosive A from the Security Room to make some Explosive Rounds, and load those into the Grenade Launcher — on consoles, hit LB with the Grenade Launcher equipped to change ammo. Hit the Item Box and Typewriter.
