Resident Evil Village guide: Maiden demo walkthrough

In this Resident Evil Village guide, we’ll walk you through every step of the Maiden demo.

Escape the dungeon

As soon as you take control, turn around. There’s a scrap of paper stuffed into the wall behind you. Examine it to pick it up, and then open your inventory and examine it again to read it. These hints will get you out of the dungeon.

Get on your hands and knees if you must

Just to the right of where you woke up, look at the bench with the green cloth. Crouch and crawl through the tunnel into the next cell.

Search for the thing you’ll need to escape … soaked in blood

That cell is unlocked, so walk out the door. You’re free to check out anything you want and take in the scenery, but there’s nothing to pick up. Make your way to the end of the hall to the right.

As you pass, take note of the cell with the woman’s body. You can’t do anything with her (yet), but we’ll be back.

At the end of the hall, examine the locked box to the left of the door. That should trigger a sound that sounds a lot like a woman’s body slumping over. Head back to that woman’s cell.

Grab the bolt cutters from her (she’s not using them any more). Exit the cell and turn left. Ignore the body falling from the ceiling — it’s probably nothing.

One cell down to the left, cut the chain to unlock the door. Examine the bucket of blood on the right to find a lockpick.

Take the lockpick back to the end of the hall. Ignore the monster behind the wall on your left — it’s probably nothing.

Use the lockpick to open the box to the left of the door, and then throw the switch inside to open the door.

The door there won’t lead to salvation

Pass through the creepy bas-relief room and into the creepy barrel room. The barrels are almost definitely full of wine and the moaning and wiggling is nothing to worry about.

You might hit a dead-end

Follow the hallway out and into a creepy dining room. Make your way around the table to the left. Crouch, and examine the cabinet there to find another tunnel.

Pass through the tunnel, and take a right. At the end of that hallway, crouch and turn to the right. Press the bloody brick (it’s fine) at the back of the fireplace to open a secret door to your left at the end of the hallway.

The only way is up

Take the stairs up. In the next room, read the note to your left as you walk through the door. Turn right and climb the ladder.

Don’t let them see you

Walk straight through the closet (dressing room?) you climb into. There’s a necklace on the table in the middle of the room, but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

Out in the hall, take a right and then another right. Ignore the figure you saw walk past, and go through the door. Take another right. Turn left at the end of the hall, and watch for the stairs on your left.

Take the stairs down. At the bottom, turn left and head for the double doors. In the kitchen, turn right. Just past the chair, turn to the table.

Examine the wine glass, and rotate it so you can see inside. Collect the maroon eye ring. Examine the ring in your inventory and turn it so you’re looking directly at the gem(?). Examine it one more time to collect the maroon eye.

Head back into the main room, and back up the stairs. You’ll spot a totally normal woman climbing the stairs ahead of you. Just keep your distance and follow her.

At the top of the stairs, walk up to the door with the woman’s face on it. Examine it, and use the maroon eye to unlock it.

In the wine closet(?), head over to the alcove on your right and examine the book for some totally normal wine facts. Turn right from the book and crouch. Open the cabinet to find the courtyard key.

Take the key back down the stairs and head for the kitchen. An impatient entomology enthusiast will show up to remind you it’s almost dinner time. We haven’t found a way to avoid her.

Once she’s done with you, continue into the kitchen. Use the courtyard key on the doors in the far right corner to escape and live happily ever after.
