Resident Evil Village walkthrough part 2: Open the castle gate

Resident Evil Village’s “Find a way to open the castle gate,” “Find shelter in Luiza’s House,” and “Escape the house” objectives take you through the Maiden of War, Graveyard, Church, Fallow Plot, and Luiza’s House areas in Old Town, where you’ll find RE8’s Maiden Crest and Demon Crest, along with a screwdriver.

Look for Rose

After the cutscene, you’ll be standing next to a stream. Turn left (west), and grab the bag of lei on the ground.

Follow the stream north to the shack with a waterwheel — it’s locked, so continue past. Speak to the old woman.

Continue up the hill and take the first left. Inside the very normal house, cut to the right for some chem fluid and a file (note) in the back corner. There’s another easy-to-pick lock in the room to the left, but we’ll come back for it. Check under the table against the southern wall for some lei.

Maiden of War

Keep climbing the hill toward the Maiden of War statue. Turn right as soon as you enter the square for some gunpowder on a bench.

There’s another crank-less well on the east side. Continue past it and grab the rusted scrap from the tractor seat.

Approach the front of the Maiden of War statue with her goat head shield. Look for a glint in the goat’s left eye. Shoot the eye to find a crystal fragment treasure.

Graveyard

Keep heading north up the hill to the Graveyard. There’s a shrine on the right with a Goat of Warding. Shoot it to earn the Cynic achievement or trophy.

To the west, there’s a crypt with a locked gate. Cut north across the graves from there to find a(n) herb next to a headstone along the north wall.

Find a way to open the castle gate

The Outer Gate to Castle Dimitrescu is at the north, but it needs two keys.

Turn east, and head through the gates to the Church with blue decoration on it.

There’s a Goat of Warding perched on the roof.

There’s another well out back, along with another (locked) Iron Insignia Key gate.

Head into the church from the west. Grab the Maiden Crest from the altar on your left, and another file from the chair just past it — a map pointing you to Luiza’s House. Visit the typewriter in the southeast corner to save.

Before you leave, look at the altar again, and take a couple steps back. There are pictures on the wall above you. Just left of center, there’s a white picture with a black wreath on it — and another sparkling point. Shoot it for another crystal fragment.

Exit to the southeast, and head down the hill toward the Fallow Plot.

Fallow Plot

At the bottom of the steps, look for the haystack ahead of you. There’s some gunpowder just to the right. Continue past the haystack, and follow the path back toward East Old Town. Just before the locked gate, grab the rusted scrap on the ground. Head back to the steps.

Take a left into the shack. Inside, grab the rusted scrap from the shelves along the left, gunpowder from the crates in the middle, handgun ammo from the drawer in the corner, and a mine from next to the flour sacks.

Hop the fence to the east and duck into the smaller shack. Grab the rusted scrap and shotgun ammo inside.

Get back to the path, and jump the fence to the south. There’re three lycan in the weeds here, so be careful. Get around to the front of the wagon blocking the path and grab the rusted scrap on the ground.

Near the top of the hill, head to the left of the path. You’ll find a Goat of Warding in the northeast corner.

At the top of the hill, take a right into the house to make a couple new friends.

Hop through the window on the south side of the house to find a crate with lei and another well. Climb onto the tarp-covered boxes on the left for some gunpowder, and then hop the brick wall.

Find shelter in Luiza’s house

On the other side of the brick wall, take a right and grab the chem fluid from the outhouse.

Cut left, and open the gate on your left (it’s next to a locked shrine with the other crest you need). Retrieve your friends, and head inside through the red door.

Luiza’s House

After the cutscene, hit the typewriter and grab the file from the armchair. Check out the photo album, and then follow your host into the house where you’ll meet the locals for a lovely cup of tea.

Escape the house

From the garage, head to the room on the right. Grab the herb next to the fireplace, and continue into the pantry (larder?).

Check the drawers and cabinets to find a bag of lei, a note that says “take the screwdriver out of the keyring if you need it,” and the truck key. Spin the truck key until you get another examine prompt over the snap. Open it to get the screwdriver. Continue around to grab some shotgun ammo.

Take the truck key back, and start the truck. It goes super well for everyone involved.

There’s nothing to grab in the attic, so loop around and climb out of the window. Drop off the balcony and take a right.

Use the screwdriver on the shrine to retrieve the Demon Crest.

Open the gate and go down the hill. Head back to the church to speak to the creepy old woman again.

Hit the typewriter in the church, and then continue west into the Graveyard. Unlock the castle gate with the Maiden Crest and the Demon Crest.
