The tenth annual Spike TV Video Game Awards was a lavish affair. Packed with celebrity, the VGAs was entertaining, informative, amusing; it just wasn't really an awards show.

While gaming was certainly the focal point of the live two-hour show on Spike TV Friday night, the awards, and the people winning them didn't just take a back seat, they weren't even in the car.

Not counting the commercials, the programming lasted about an hour and a half. The award-winning developers and their on-stage acceptance speeches took up less than five minutes of that time. That's about 45 seconds for each of the televised acceptance speeches. While that matches the time given to Oscar acceptance speeches, only a quarter of the 24 awards were announced...

A brand-new BioShock Infinite trailer premiered at tonight's Spike Video Game Awards, giving us a glimpse at the moment when protagonist Booker DeWitt first meets Elizabeth, as well as a battle with a Handyman.

Elizabeth is immediately suspicious of DeWitt and seems to be shocked that he's corporeal. When he says he can give her a way out of her imprisonment in the floating city of Columbia, she doesn't believe him — until he produces a key. That's when her handler comes calling, and she tells DeWitt to hide.

The trailer shifts to a fight that takes place along Columbia's Sky-Hook system, with DeWitt using Vigors like Murder of Crows against the enemies he encounters. Elizabeth helps out with ammo as DeWitt takes on airships with...

Actor Zachary Levi presented a brand-new trailer for Gears of War: Judgment, the series prequel being developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly, at tonight's Spike Video Game Awards.

A month after Emergence Day, with the Locust invasion in full swing, cities burn. Humans speak of a "massive grub" cutting swaths of destruction through the land, and infighting makes the situation even worse. We do at least see plenty of combat footage, including Cole Train whacking off a Locust's head with a baseball swing.

The game focuses on Lt. Damon Baird, and is being written by Tom Bissell and Rob Auten.

Gears of War: Judgment is set for release on March 19, 2013, on Xbox 360. Check out our multiplayer preview from E3.

A trailer for Dark Souls 2 premiered at the Spike Video Game Awards tonight, showing off the desolate environments familiar to those who've played the brutal action role-playing game's precursor.

The game will feature a new hero, storyline and challenging world to explore.

"This new chapter in the Dark Souls saga presents opportunities for us to drive innovation in gameplay design, develop an entirely new story, and expand the scope of the world in which the player interacts with the game," said Tomohiro Shibuya, the game's director.
