Sekiro boss guide: Long-arm Centipede Giraffe

Same fight, smaller arena

Sekiro Long-armed Centipede Giraffe guide FromSoftware/Activision via Polygon

Sekiro’s Long-arm Centipede Giraffe boss fight is a creepy retread, but this time you’ve got to fight in a room the size of a walk-in closet.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to defeat Long-arm Centipede Giraffe, the items you should bring with you, and strategies to react to its attacks.

The best items and moves for Long-arm Centipede Giraffe

Long-arm Centipede Giraffe only has one attack speed: fast. It deals a lot of Posture damage in a short amount of time, and that doesn’t give you much chance to recuperate. Here’s what you should bring to ease your suffering.

  • Gokan’s Sugar. This Quick Item reduces the Posture damage you take for about 30 seconds. You’ll be able to block more hits, which is important because he has infinity of them.
  • Shinobi Firecracker. This Prosthetic Tool gives you the opportunity to land a few (two or three) attacks. We wouldn’t call it a requirement, but you’ll take Giraffe down quicker with it.

Long-arm Centipede Giraffe’s attacks

Let’s talk about Long-arm Centipede Giraffe’s attacks, how to identify them, and what you should do about them.

Claw flurry

Giraffe’s primary attack is a barrage of claw swipes. You can block them all, but watch your Posture bar.

There are at least two variations, both of which you can see above. Its most common version is a 10-attack flurry, but Giraffe also has a 3-attack flavor. Your goal is the same, regardless: Block to survive.

Perilous Attack: Grab

The more Long-arm Centipede Giraffe uses its Perilous Attack, the better it is for you. A red kanji appears, Giraffe stretches its arms to its side, and then grabs for Sekiro.

Jump to avoid the attack, and then press the jump button again to land on Giraffe’s head and deal significant Posture damage with a Jump Kick.

Sekiro’s attacks

This fight is almost entirely about keeping your Posture damage under control while dealing some damage in between Long-arm Centipede Giraffe’s flurries.

The Jump Kicks you hand out after his Perilous Attack are the most powerful arrow in your quiver, and you can win the fight that way if you’re patient enough. Perfect Deflects will also chip away at his Posture — and because he attacks and so much so often, this is your other area of focus.

Shinobi Firecracker

This is particularly useful at the beginning of the fight and after Long-arm Centipede Giraffe ends one of its flurries. Throw firecrackers, stun your enemy, and attack a few times to deal some Vitality (health) damage. Then get back to blocking.

Deflect

Deflects deal a surprising amount of Posture damage. There’s a rhythm to his claw attacks. Learn it.

Start tapping block instead of holding it. Time out your taps to match his rhythm — counting helped us get the timing down. You don’t have to Deflect every attack perfectly, but every Deflect you land will drive his Posture damage up.
