Each of the 16 colossi you fight during Shadow of the Colossus is a puzzle to solve. You have to find where it’s hiding in the world. Then you have to figure out how to get close to it. And finally you have to figure out how to reach its magic sigil weak points and kill it.
This guide will take you from the Shrine of Worship through defeating the sixth colossus in the desert. We’ll also point out any shrines, lizards or fruit trees along the way.

- You’re heading southwest this time. If you look carefully, you’ll see some tall spires — that’s the direction you’re heading.
- Head toward (and between) the spires until you come to a wide canyon that leads to the right(ish). Follow the canyon.
- The canyon will empty you into a small forest. Agro and the woods don’t really get along — steering her around the trees is very, very difficult. Either dismount and wait for her on the other side of the woods or just slow down a lot.
- Instead of relying on your sword, follow the paths through the forest — this’ll save you a lot of frustration.
- On the other side of the woods, you’ll end up on another path. There aren’t any turns to worry about. Just keep following the path along the canyon, then along the ledge and into the tunnel.
- The tunnel will lead you to a desert. Turn to your right a little, then raise your sword for guidance.
- Across the dunes, there’s a structure built into the cliff face. That’s where you’re headed.
Collectibles along the way
There are six lizards, two shrines and one fruit tree on the way from the Shrine of Worship to the sixth colossus. These are all optional things to do, but they’ll each help you out a little. Lizards will increase your stamina, fruit will increase your health and shrines will restore your health and act as a quicksave point.

Follow the first path that branches to your left once you get into the woods. Just keep following that (and keeping the cliff on your left) until you come to a shrine. There are three lizards on and around this shrine. The underbrush and ferns make them very hard to spot, so walk away periodically and come back to flush them out.

Keep the cliff on your left and head a little further southwest. There’ll be a cliffside path that dead ends at a fruit tree. There will also be a lizard scurrying around its roots. When you shoot the fruit off of the tree, it will fall to a ledge about halfway down the cliff. Watch along the ledge for some ivy to climb down. You’ll find a ledge you can cross to retrieve your fruit.
After you get it, climb up and get back on the path toward the colossus.

As soon as you come into the desert after the forest, take a sharp right turn. You’ll see a shrine ahead of you. Ride up, pray and find the lizard.
Just to the south of the shrine, there’s a cliff. Ride back to the east to get around the cliff, then turn west (right) again. Watch for a boulder on your left. The lizard will be nearby.
The entrance to the colossus’ area will be just south of you. Before you go in, though, there’s one more lizard to grab. Face the entrance, then turn left. There’s a low, rocky hill just off to the side. Head over and find the lizard scampering around on (or near) it. Then you can head back to the entrance to the ruins.

- Hop off Agro and run along the tunnel that leads back into the cliff. Hop over the rocks and follow the hallway that leads underground.
- There are a few turns and more blocks to worry about, but there aren’t any branches to the hallway. Just keep following it until you get a cutscene.
- Walk straight forward and climb down over the lip of the ledge.
- Climb straight down (or just let go and grab on before you hit the ledge) until you reach a ledge.
- Run to the left or right and grab onto another ledge until you’ve got a clear line down to the ground.
- Drop or climb the rest of the way to the ground and watch the cutscene.
- As soon as you’re able, turn directly away from the colossus and start running.
- Climb onto the top of one of the pillars, then over the top of the first wall.
- Repeat this two more times until you see an alcove in the far wall.
- If the colossus doesn’t notice you, step out and shoot it with an arrow until it does.
- Hide behind one of the pillars and wait until the colossus leans down to investigate. It might slam a fist down, but just keep hiding until it leans its head down and you can see its beard.
- Run out, jump onto its beard and start climbing.

- Climb the rest of the way up the colossus’ face until you get to the top of its head. You can take a quick break on its shoulders if you need to regain any stamina.
- The first magic sigil is at the top of its head where you’ve probably come to expect it. It’ll try very hard to shake you off, so don’t get too greedy with your stabs. Just keep stabbing until the sigil disappears.
- There’s another sigil on the left side of its back, just under its shoulder blade. Now, you just have to get there. The smartest approach is just to climb slowly down along the fur. It’s also possible to fall or jump down, but this is pretty hit-or-miss because the colossus will be shaking around a lot. Just be patient.
- When you get down to the other magic sigil, the colossus will still be trying to shake you off, but you should have plenty of time to get in a few fully-charged stabs and take it down.
