Gaming content creator and entrepreneur Mari Takahashi is joining our show, Speedrun, as a correspondent starting today! Mari co-founded Smosh Games, which won two Streamy Awards and a Webby during her tenure. She runs her own YouTube channel now, and also, she was on Survivor and is a trained ballerina?
We think she’s amazing.
Mari joins host Jimmy Mondal, a passionate gamer and esports fanatic who launched Cheddar Esports and lent his voice to Overwatch League’s New York Excelsior. Together, Jimmy and Mari will explore video games and the communities that play them. In Mari’s debut episode, she meets up with professional Twitch streamer iamBrandon to explore the community he’s built around streaming horror games.
“Like most kids in my generation, I played games as a hobby without any expectation to ever step foot as a professional in this industry,” says Mari. “I’ve met some of my dearest friends across the globe thanks to video games, which is why I’m inspired to continue building the Speedrun community and bringing together like-minded folks who both love and are curious about the narratives, people, and events that shape this awesome industry and its evolving culture. I’m stoked to join forces with Jimmy and Polygon to share fun and compelling stories on Quibi!”
You can watch the full episode on Quibi, but since this is Mari’s debut, you can also watch the full episode on YouTube right now:
Speedrun now airs on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and Mari will be back on Wednesday, July 1 to help Jimmy try to beat the first boss in Nioh 2. Learn more about Quibi in the handy-dandy write-up I did when the platform launched. Check back in every Friday on Polygon because Mike Mahardy is doing a weekly recap of the stories we tell on the show.
