Spider-Man: Miles Morales guide: ‘Harlem Trains out of Service’ mission puzzle guide

How to line up the three trains and restore power to the tracks!

Near the start of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Miles will get access to his Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man app. You’ll get a mission called “Harlem Trains out of Service” and need to solve your first puzzle: Rebuild the train line in the train yard.

There are a few different puzzles like this one in Miles Morales scattered throughout some side missions and main quests. But this train puzzle is the first one of its kind. Here’s a walkthrough of how the train puzzle works, which should also give you the tools you need to solve all the puzzles Miles comes across.

Clear out the Underground

When you first get to the train tracks, you’ll need to clear out a group of Underground before starting the puzzle. The game will use this as the first opportunity to teach you stealth. Follow the tutorial, and then take the rest of the Underground out as loudly or quietly as you’d like.

When they’re all gone, go into the control room and try to fix the trains.

Get the trains into place

With the controls shot, you’ll have to do this manually. Back in the train yard, approach the turntable until you get a L1+R1 pull prompt on the center train.

Turn the turntable twice, until it’s lined up with the tunnel and the train is suspended in mid-air. With the train in position, move forward to the tunne, and pull it toward you. Miles will duck out of the way, and you’ll have one train in position.

With the turntable empty, turn it sideways again. There are two trains in the train yard, and one of them is in position to move onto the sideways turntable. Pull the train yard train onto the turntable. Turn the turntable one more time to line it up with the one by the tunnel. That makes two.

Pull down the suspended train and web up the gears

Web-zip up to the elevated train on the left. Perched on the front of the train, you should be face-to-face with the mechanism keeping it suspended. Use your pull move again to drop the train and then quickly hit R1 a few times to web up the gears. With the train back on the tracks and the mechanism unable to bring it back up, you’ve successfully moved all three trains into place.

Restore power to the line

Now you just need to power up the tracks.

Move over toward the tunnel and you’ll see some broken controls and a generator. Futz with the controls just to make sure they’re busted and then move to plan B. Walk up to the generator and hit L1+Square to Venom Punch it. With the generator charged with energy, the game will teach you to create electric lines with your webs. Create a conduit between the generator and the connector to energize the tracks and fix the line.

Now head back to Uncle Aaron for a battle with the Underground.
