Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters this December. If you’re in the mood for some Star Wars news, then take this still of new character Babu Frik to hold you over. What’s that you say? How will just a still image hold me over? I hear you, and I understand. But this still is of Babu Frik, who now wins the title for most adorable, non-droid Star Wars character. (Sorry, R2-D2, BB-8, and D-IO are still S-tier in my heart).
Babu was first revealed in toy version during the Triple Force Friday livestream (which, for the record, happened last Thursday in anticipation for this Friday). This, however, marks the first look at his film appearance.
Babu is an Anzellan droidsmith who works with the Spice Runners of Kijimi. He can hack, reprogram, and repair almost any droid, regardless of existing security measures. We stan a tech-savvy king. Just look at the dedication and care in his little eyes! The soft whiskers! The wrinkled face! He is wise. He is precious. I will protect him, but I’m sure Babu can protect himself.
The full plot of Rise of Skywalker is still pretty nebulous, especially considering everything seemed pretty wrapped up at the end of The Last Jedi, so there's really no telling how Babu will weigh in here. Will he fix evil red-eyed C-3PO? Will he be the key in unlocking the fate of the galaxy? Is he the Skywalker who will rise?
Rise of Skywalker comes out Dec. 20.
