How to find all Lost Kingdom power moons
Our power moons guide puts the collectibles in the same order as Super Mario Odyssey.
1. Atop a Propeller Pillar
Capture one of the Wigglers next to the Swamp Hill flag and stretch across to the nearest spinning platform. Turn to the right, and stretch to the other spinning platform to find the power moon.
2. Below the Cliff’s Edge
Head straight east away from the Swamp Hill flag until you hit the island’s edge. Look over the cliff to find a small platform with this power moon.
3. Inside the Stone Cage
You’ll see this moon on your way up to Swamp Hill from the Odyssey. Climb the first set of see-saw stairs, then turn to the left. Follow the edge of the cliff along until you see an extra tall, stompable platform. Smash it down to reveal the tunnel to the moon.
4. On a Tree in the Swamp
Capture the Wiggler closest to the Swamp Hill flag. Go around the right side of the L-shaped see-saw stairs and cross the poison waterfall. Continue around to the left, then cross the Wiggler over to the stairs. Release the Wiggler and stomp the center of the L to raise the ends. Recapture the Wiggler and stretch it around the tree to find this moon.
5. Over the Fuzzies, Above the Swamp
Capture a Wiggler and bring it to the Mountainside Platform flag. Stretch it across to the floating (3-D) platforms. Use the stumps off to your right to avoid the Fuzzies, then continue across to claim your moon.
6. Avoiding Fuzzies Inside the Wall
Head into the 2-D tunnel right next to the Mountainside Platform. Ride the moving platforms and dodge the Fuzzies to grab this moon on the far side.
7. Inside the Rising Stone Pillar
Straight to the east of the Swamp Hill flag, just off the cliff, there’s a set of four see-saw stairs. Stomp the far one so the one closest to the flag and cliff is raised. Then run around the left side — the side facing the ocean. There’s an opening in the pillar with the moon inside.
8. Enjoying the View of Forgotten Isle
Climb the palm tree to the right of the Crazy Cap shop right next to the Rocky Mountain Summit flag. You’ll find the moon at the top.
9. On the Mountain Road
Just below the summit of the mountain — right next to the narrow column you wall jump up to get to the top — look for a small flock of butterflies. Ground pound in the middle of them to find this moon.
10. A Propeller Pillar’s Secret
Hop to the spinning platform closest to the Swamp Hill flag. (You don’t need to capture a Wiggler for this one.) Ground pound right in the middle of the X to reveal this moon.
11. Wrecked Rock Block
Down the stairs to the east of the Swamp Hill flag (near where you picked up moon 7. Inside the Rising Stone Pillar), look for a Trapeetle near a set of four blocks. Stand on top of the blocks and toss Cappy to the Trapeetle. It will launch itself toward you and smash any block in its way. Keep repeating this until it smashes the glowing block containing the moon.
12. A Butterfly’s Treasure
The easiest way to spot this one’s location is to start at the Crazy Cap store next to the Rocky Mountain Summit flag. Look to the left of the store and far below you to spot a narrow rock outcropping with a butterfly at the end.
Drop down to it, and slowly make your way out to about the midpoint — just before the narrowest part of the outcropping. If the butterfly flies away, you have to get off and wait for it to come back. Hit the butterfly with Cappy to get it to drop its moon.
13. Caught Hopping in the Jungle!
Capture one of the Wigglers near the Swamp Hill flag, and make your way to the first spinning platform. Use the Wiggler to either smack the rabbit or corral it into one of the spikes on the Wiggler’s back.
14. Cave Gardening
Start right next to the Talkatoo — the quickest way to get here is to drop off the east side of the Rocky Mountain Summit. Face away from the Talkatoo and follow the wall ahead of you to the right. Watch for a cave in the wall behind some plants. Inside, you have to get all the flowers to bloom at once. The easiest way is to do a couple of spin throws in quick succession.
15. Moon Shards in the Jungle
Start on the lower level of the island, right beneath the spinning platform next to the Swamp Hill flag. Grab a Wiggler and start stretching to the west.
- When you hit the donut-shaped island, stand on the rocky outcropping, and turn to your right. You can see the first two shards right ahead of you.
- Turn right from the second shard and look for a hole in the tree — the third shard is in that hole.
- The fourth shard is on a large stump guarded by another Wiggler in the northwest corner of the area.
- The final shard is behind the tree to the northwest of that large stump. Use the roots as steps to get to it.
Backtrack to the donut-island to retrieve your moon.
16. Peeking Out from Under the Bridge
Starting from the base of the same spinning platform as moon 15, turn back toward the Odyssey to the southeast. There’s a natural bridge ahead of you with this moon under it. You’ll have to use a Wiggler to reach it. Use the tree roots on your right for a launching point.
17. Twist ‘n’ Turn-Up Treasure
Capture a Wiggler and bring it all the way back to the Odyssey. Straight ahead of the Odyssey in the southwest corner of the island, look below you for an area you can drop to. Use the Wiggler to retrieve the key from the small cave and unlock the moon.
18. Soaring Over the Forgotten Isle!
Capture the Glydon near the Crazy Cap at the Rocky Mountain Summit. Glide to the south to find a moon on a tiny island. (Capture the slingshot to return to the main island.)
19. The Caged Gold
You’ll be able to see this moon in its cage on the south side of the Mountain Road. You have to use the nearby Trapeetle to smash it open. Continue up the Mountain Road a little ways to find an area that passes right over the moon.
20. Get Some Rest, Captain Toad
Take a Wiggler back to the area where you collected the shards for moon 15. Stretch your way to the northeastern corner — just be careful as you weave around and between the Fuzzies. Stretch your Wiggler around to the right to find a small tunnel that leads to Captain Toad’s cave.
21. Shopping on Forgotten Isle
Purchase this power moon from the Crazy Cap shop at the Rocky Mountain Summit.
22. Taxi Flying Through Forgotten Isle
Use the green binoculars near the Odyssey to scan the sky, where you’ll find a Taxi masquerading as an air ship.
23. I met a Tropical Wiggler!
Warp to the Swamp Hill flag, and head east to find a Bonneter (like Cappy in his natural state) hanging out on a ledge. “I came to this island to see the strange creature made of differently colored round sections!” the Bonneter will say. “I’d love a close look at one.”
- Head back to the flag where you came from, making sure that the accordion-like staircase’s highest end is flush with the cliff nearest to the flag.
- Take over a Wiggler, and walk to down to the lowest step.
- Exit the Wiggler, and ground pound the highest step.
- Take over the Wiggler, and accordion yourself over the little hat dude.
- Speak to him and get yourself a power moon.
24. Lost Kingdom Regular Cup
The trick to winning Regular and Master Cups in every kingdom is finding shortcuts and exploring Mario’s advanced moves. Here are some tips:
- Roll away from the starting line. You’ll roll faster than the Koopas can run.
- Practice your hat throw and jump combination. This is the key to winning by jumping over gaps or avoiding triggering accordion staircases. In short: jump (A or B), ground pound (ZL or ZR), throw Cappy (X or Y), then hit the button to throw Cappy again (X or Y) immediately and hold it down. Instead of diving, you’ll jump off of Cappy. You can see us doing this to avoid the accordion staircases in the video above.
- Dive over gaps. To do that, press jump (A or B) and, while you’re in the air, press a trigger (ZL or ZR) and then the throw Cappy button (X or Y). Instead of doing a ground pound, you’ll dive forward.
You could also do your hat throw and jump combination to avoid the parts where the Trapeetles (the enemies who blow up) destroy to blocks, but it’s not necessary here. (It is in the Master Cup, though.)
25. Peach in the Lost Kingdom
Warp to Rocky Mountain Summit (by the shop), and you’ll find Princess Peach hanging out by the ledge. Talk to her for a power moon.
After the moon rock
The following moons are available after you defeat Bowser for the final time, return to the Lost Kingdom and smash the moon rock. (To find the moon rock in any kingdom, just follow the rainbow-colored vertical beacon.)
26. The Shining Fruit
This might be the easiest power moon to get in Super Mario Odyssey. Warp back to the Odyssey and hug the right side of the island. You’ll see a yellow power moon glowing near a palm tree. Climb to get it.
27. Jump Down to the Top of a Tree
Warp the Rocky Mountain Summit and
28. Line It Up, Blow It Up
Warp to Swamp Hill, and face the Wigglers.
- Jump over the Wigglers and ground pound the accordion staircase so that the right side is down. This will expose a pile of rocks, inside of which is a power moon.
- Cross over the X-shaped rotating platform and hop onto solid ground.
- Hop up to the topmost level of solid ground to get the attention of the Trapeetle (the exploding enemy), and then hop down to the lower of the two levels.
- When the X-shaped platform is about to stop rotating for a few seconds, throw Cappy at the Trapeetle.
- When the X-shaped platform stops rotating, jump onto it, stopping just a few feet onto the right arm.
If you timed it right, the Trapeetle will fly in your direction but above your head, collide with the rocks and explode, uncovering the power moon. Check out the video above to see us pull this one off.
29. Taking Notes: Stretch and Shrink
Warp to Swamp Hill, and face the Wigglers. Take over one of the Wigglers, and accordion yourself onto the rotating platform, then to solid ground on the right and finally to another rotating platform. Off the end, you’ll see a treble clef. Touch it, and you’ll need to collect musical notes.
The key to this is to accordion yourself as little as possible, since you don’t have much time to capture the musical notes. Here’s how we did it:
- As soon as you hit the treble clef, turn immediately to your left and gather the notes there.
- Plant your feet again when the rotating platform is facing solid ground and accordion yourself to get to solid ground as soon as you can.
- Plant your feet for the final time on solid ground, and stretch to collect all remaining notes.
30. Lost Kingdom Master Cup
This one is tough. Really tough. Like, super duper tough. To have any chance of winning, you’ll need to take a few shortcuts, and there’s no better way to illustrate those than in the video above.
You’ll need to practice. Here’s what you should do:
- Roll away from the starting line. You’ll roll faster than the Koopas can run. As you can see in the video above, this is optional. Somehow, we only rolled once, and we still won by a country mile. Still, it’s nice to have a head start.
- Use your hat throw and jump combination to avoid the walls where the Trapeetles (the enemies who blow up) destroy your path through. This is hard. This will probably be infuriating. But one day, you’ll pull it off, and you can watch a video of yourself getting it right and marvel at how, for a few seconds at least, you were pretty good at video games. (Also, learning these advanced jumping techniques will help you a lot in the rest of Super Mario Odyssey.)
31. Lost Kingdom Timer Challenge
Warp to Rocky Mountain Summit and jump off the eastern cliff. When you land, throw Cappy at the scarecrow and race across the blocks to the power moon above the palm tree.
32. Stretch and Traverse the Jungle and 33. Aglow in the Jungle
To get these two power moons, enter what looks like the top of a gray chimney to the north of the Odyssey. You’ll see the most important steps in the gallery above, as well as explanations in the text below.
- For power moon 32, you just need to make it to the end of the level. And to do that, you’ll just need to stretch a Wiggler between platforms, often hitting P switches to lower geysers of deadly purple goo. Use the Wiggler’s ability to step on two things at once to hit multiple switches, and remember that a Wiggler can smash through brick walls.
- For power moon 33, you need to destroy the bricks to the left and right of the fire-breathing piranha plant. Hang out on the east and west platforms until it spits fire at you. Move back to the main platform as the fireball flies toward your position, and the fireball will light the torch you were just standing on. Do that on each side for a power moon.
34. Chasing Klepto and 35. Extremely Hot Bath
To get these two power moons, enter what looks like the top of a gray chimney over the cliff to the east of Rocky Mountain Summit. You’ll see the most important steps in the gallery above, as well as explanations in the text below.
- To get the power moon 34, just follow Klepto around. When it lands on a platform that, next to it, has a platform you can ground pound, perform that ground pound. It’ll knock Klepto senseless, and you’ll get Cappy back. (If Klepto lands on the platform in the east of the room, you can triple jump to get there. Check out the GIF in the gallery above.)
- To get power moon 35, first get 34. Then use Cappy to take over a Lava Bubble and make your way to the northwest of the arena. Behind a large blue pillar, you’ll find a power moon.
