You’ll need 15 power moons to move on from the Metro Kingdom. Moons 1-9, 13, 21-23, 31 and 34 are the easiest to find to get you there.
When you first arrive in the Metro Kingdom, you’ll see a list of 61 power moons in your menu. Weirdly, you can’t collect them all yet. Also, there are more than 61 moons here. Here’s how it works:
- Moons 1-53 are available before you beat the game several kingdoms later.
- Moons 54-66 are available after you defeat Bowser for the final time and return to the Metro Kingdom.
- Moons 67-81 are available after you defeat Bowser for the final time, return to the Metro Kingdom and smash the moon rock.

How to find all Metro Kingdom power moons
Our power moons guide puts the collectibles in the same order as Super Mario Odyssey.
1. New Donk City’s Pest Problem
You’ll get the first power moon for this kingdom by defeating the Mechawiggler.
2. Drummer on Board!
After you defeat the Mechawiggler and (for whatever reason) the weather improves, your next task is to gather a band. The drummer is right next to Mayor Pauline.
3. Guitarist on Board!
The guitarist you need to recruit is in the northeast corner of the park near the Main Street Entrance flag.
4. Bassist on Board!
Head to the northeast of the city at the east end of the city that runs east-west in front of City Hall. Use the Spark Pylon to cross over to the Mayor Pauline Commemorative Park (and make sure you hit the flag when you get there). The bassist is playing over in the corner of the park.
5. Trumpeter on Board!
The trumpeter is the hardest to get to, let alone find. At the other end of the same street, in the northwest of the city across from the cafe, look for a pole sticking out of the building. Capture the pole, and use it to launch yourself up the building. Run around to the right to find another pole. Keep circling the building and using poles to climb all the way to the top of the building. At the very top, there’s one more pole that will launch you over to the triangular building. The trumpet player is on the roof (for some reason).
6. Powering Up the Station
When you work your way through the power station, the last challenge you’ll face is a pair of Big Poison Piranha Plants. Use Cappy to clear a path, then take them both out. You’ll get this moon as a reward.
7. A Traditional Festival!
You’ll find this moon at the end of the 2-D festival (after you recruit the band and turn the power back on).
8. Inside an Iron Girder
On your way to fight the Mechawiggler, you’ll pass through a construction site. As you leave the construction area, watch for four wooden crates blocking the end of a girder. Smash the crates, then head into the girder. Follow the path inside to the left to find this moon.
9. Swaying in the Breeze
This moon is also along your way to fight the Mechawiggler. Once you reach the the Heliport, there’s a(nother) girder you have to cross to get to City Hall. About halfway across, turn to your right to see the moon. You’ll have to navigate a beam that’s swinging in the wind to get to it.
10. Girder Sandwich
You can get this moon either on the way to fight the Mechawiggler or afterward. From the Construction Access area in the northeast of the city, look toward the edge of the city. On the right side of the street, there’s a beam supported by a shootable block. Destroy the block to make the beam fall, t hen cross it. On the other side, you’ll find a platform with two pillars. Wall jump your way up the top to find the moon.
11. Glittering Above the Pool
The easiest way to get to the rooftop pool is from the New Donk City Hall Rooftop flag — you can see the pool on the map to the northwest of the City Hall. Climb all the way up to the roof and use the P-Switch for moon 20 to reveal a path. Jump off the checkerboard path and drop into the pool. If you don’t get the moon on the way down, use the umbrella next to the pool to bounce up and grab it.
12. Dizzying Heights
From the New Donk City Hall Rooftop flag, follow the Spark Pylon wire down over the side. Drop down, then capture the pylon to climb even further up. From there, just keep climbing. You’ll find this moon at the very top of the antenna at the peak.
13. Secret Girder Tunnel!
From the Odyssey, head toward the Spark Pylon that leads to the Main Street Entrance. Instead of capturing the pylon, turn to the right. Drop down to the area right off of the platform, and look for an entrance to the girder there. The moon is inside.
14. Who Piled Garbage on This?
Start from the Main Street Entrance flag. Jump onto the taxi right ahead of you to spring up onto the building on the left side of the street. Climb up to the roof and keep heading west. Use the water tower on the far side to climb up over the billboards and onto the next roof. Keep heading forward to the next building, then look in the far right corner. Toss Cappy at the garbage bags, then ground pound the grate to reveal the moon.
15. Hidden in the Scrap
After you have defeated the Mechawiggler, head to the Mayor Pauline Commemorative Park flag. Look for the broken chunk of the Mechawiggler that landed there. Ground pound it to reveal a moon.
16. Left at the Cafe?
Starting from the Outdoor Cafe flag, head around to the back side of the cafe building. There’s a Spark Pylon there that will carry you up to the roof. On the roof, look for the place where pigeons keep landing or just use the controller vibration to find where this moon is hidden. (Or you can just use the image above.)
17. Caught Hopping on a Building!
There is another rabbit hopping around on the grassy roofs around the Rooftop Garden flag. Use the poles to launch yourself from garden to garden until you can hit the rabbit.
18. How Do They Take Out the Trash?
Head to the New Donk City Hall Rooftop flag. Take the Spark Pylon to the top like you did for moons 11, 12 and 20. Head to the northeast corner of the roof and look down at the Heliport — there’s a dumpster on top of a tall pillar on the north side. Jump off and dive toward the dumpster. You’ll crash into it and reveal the power moon when you land.
19. Metro Kingdom Timer Challenge 1
Once again, head to the New Donk City Hall Rooftop flag, and use the Spark Pylon to get the rest of the way up. Hop on the Scooter you find there, and use it to hit the P-Switch. Race around the checkerboard path that appears in front of your Scooter. Hit the key on your way past to reveal the moon, then grab the moon as well — all without stopping because you don’t have any extra time.
20. Metro Kingdom Timer Challenge 2
The scarecrow to start this timer challenge is two blocks north and one block west from the Main Street Entrance flag, right next to the slots building. (It’s actually in the same place as moon 8 after you defeat the Mechawiggler.) Use the tipping platforms to work your way up to the moon. Check out our GIF above to see how we pulled it off (with no time to spare).
21. City Gardening: Building Planter
The three moons 21-23 need to be grown from seeds that you can find in the park next to the Main Street Entrance flag. You’ll pick up the seeds in the southeast corner of the park, then have to plant them in three pots around the town. Then you just have to wait for 15 (real world) minutes for the plant to grow.
Head to the west of the park, and jump onto the taxi parked behind the Scooter. Use the boost it gives you to jump up to the roof of the building. The pot is right ahead of you next to the water tower.
22. City Gardening: Plaza Planter
This pot is in the northeast corner of the same park where you pick up the seeds — in the same place where you recruited the guitarist earlier.
23. City Gardening: Rooftop Planter
The third pot is a bit of a walk. Head to the west side of the town and look for the slots building. Go around to the alley on the north side of the building and wall jump up to the roof. Look back to the east to see the pot.
24. How You Doin’, Captain Toad?
Once again, head to the New Donk City Hall Rooftop. (You can also get to this moon from the street level, but it’s easier see from up high.) From the flag, head around to the back (north) side of the building. Look all the way down at street level for a beam sticking out over the abyss. Slide down the wall to control your descent, then walk out to the end of the beam to find Captain Toad.
25. Free Parking: Rooftop Hop
Grab the Scooter just north of the Main Street Entrance flag. Keep riding north along that same road. Keep to the right at the Y-intersection in front of City Hall. Look for some blue scaffolding on the north side of the street after the turn — it’s behind the little picnic area. Carefully ride the Scooter up the scaffolding’s stairs all the way to the roof. Park in the slot next to the man on the roof to get your moon.
26. Bench Friends
Facing the Crazy Cap store (which is just a little to the northwest of the Main Street Entrance flag), turn left. Take an immediate right, and look for a man sitting alone on a bench. Hop up onto the bench, then don’t touch the controller for a second. Mario will sit down next to him, and he’ll reward you with a moon.
27. Shopping in New Donk City
You can pick up this moon from the Crazy Cap shop.
28. Metro Kingdom Slots
Head to the slots store(?) on the west side of the city. It’ll take at least two throws to hits all four slots and win your moon. Just watch for the red heart icon to cycle past and throw then — the heart is always right before the moon.
29. Jump-Rope Hero
In the park just to the northeast of the Main Street Entrance flag, there are a couple women with a jumprope. Get in there and successfully jump 30 times to get your moon.
30. Jump-Rope Genius
This one is exactly like the one above, but you have to jump 100 times in a row. It’s difficult and frustrating. We have a few pieces of advice for you. Some of them may be mumbo-jumbo. We recognize that. But we’re also convinced that they worked for us. Here we go:
- Move the camera so that you’re looking at the jump rope from more or less the same angle as you would if you were jumping rope in real life. It makes more sense to parse the rope’s movement that way.
- For the first 40 or so jumps, jump right after the woman says, “Hey!”
- Somewhere between jumps 40 and 50, just start jumping again the moment that Mario hits the ground. The rope is moving too fast and the woman is talking too fast to make timing your jumps reliable. But if you just concentrate on nothing beyond Mario’s feet, you’ll be fine.
- Don’t look at the counter in the bottom right of the screen. You need to concentrate on Mario. Also, it’s a psych out. If you’re like us, you’ll start to get a little nervous. Focusing on Mario’s feet — not the sounds, not the counter, not the rope — keeps you from getting distracted.
- If you feel the need to count, just start counting up to 10 and then starting back at one again. Getting just 10 more jumps feels a lot easier than 50 more or 30 more.
You can see us doing exactly this in the video above.
31. Remotely Captured Car
Across the street to the west of the park, there’s a man playing with a remote-controlled car. Capture the man to gain control of the car. Navigate the course to drive the car into the cage on the far side and collect your moon.
32. RC Car Pro!
After you get power moon 31, enter the door behind the outdoor racetrack to find an indoor racetrack. Complete three laps to get this power moon.
33. Taking Notes: In the Private Room
A little bit north from the Main Street Entrance flag, there’s a building on the west side of the street with the doors open. Inside, you’ll find a musical note. You’ll have to make a few circuits of the room — both the 3-D and 2-D parts — to collect all the notes and claim your moon.
34. City Hall Lost & Found
For this moon, you have to get to the New Donk City Hall Interior. You can get here either from the New Donk City Hall Rooftop or from the Heliport (from there, you just cross the beams like you did while you were hunting the Mechawiggler). There’s really only one path through the interior, so you’ll end up passing this moon no matter which way you approach it. In the gallery above, we came in from the Heliport entrance.
Cross from the doorway to the far wall, then turn right. Ride the first set of platforms up, then work your way back across the wall to the left. There are more platforms at the far end, then you’ll repeat the right-left pattern one more time. When you get to the vertical beams, you’re getting close. Watch for the beam in the very corner of the area. Climb all the way to the top, then Wall Jump up the beam above it. You’ll have to jump across to the right using a few more beams hanging down, then back to the left to find the chest containing this moon.
35. Sewer Treasure
Down in the sewer during your mission to get the city’s power back on, you’ll encounter a very frustrating vertical platform. Instead of running all the way across it, run up to to the top as it rotates and jump back the way you came. You’ll find a moon on a ledge.
36. Celebrating in the Streets!
Head back to the New Donk City Hall Auditorium. Up near the stage on the left, there’s a man that you can talk to who will let you re-run the 2-D festival. Continue through to the upside-down area with the flaming barrels falling up. Jump onto the top (bottom) of the four question mark blocks. There are two invisible block above (below) them. There’s a pipe above (below) those that will take you to a secret room and your moon.
37. Pushing Through the Crowd
Just to the north of the Outdoor Cafe flag, there’s a building with an open door. Head inside to find a strange alley. Toss Cappy at the switch on the left side of the alley, then all you have to do to claim your moon is jump and dodge your way through the crowd.
38. High Over the Crowd
From the platform where you picked up moon 37 by the Outdoor Cafe flag, turn around and start back down the alley. Jump onto the head of a passerby and use the awning to launch yourself up to the metal platforms high above you. Jump to the next awning, then onto the poles. Swing your way across to find this moon.
Before you leave the alley, go through the pipe at the end to collect moons 45 and 46.
39. Rewiring the Neighborhood
For the next couple moons, you have to buy a new outfit. Head into the purple side of the Crazy Cap store. Pick up the Builder Helmet and Outfit for a total of 15 Metro coins. Head back outside, then turn up the street on the west side of the building — you’ll run past the man on the bench from moon 26. Keep running straight north until you see a man outside of a building wearing a hardhat. (You can also get to this building from the Outdoor Cafe flag.)
Talk to the man and scam your way inside the building. Use the Spark Pylons to work your way through the area. You’ll eventually come to a grid with five moon shards and a bunch of Fuzzies. Use the center wires to catch your breath and avoid the Fuzzies while you collect all five. The moon will appear right by the exit pipe, but before you leave, go get moon 40 below.
40. Off the Beaten Wire
On your way to collect moon 39, one of the wires you ride will pass over a building. Jump out of the wire as it passes over the roof. Hop down to the lower portion of the roof and smash the crates to find the moon.
41. Moon Shards Under Siege
There’s a unique taxi on the east side of the street just north of the Main Street Entrance flag. You can capture it with Cappy. When you try to drive it, it takes you somewhere else.
- Capture the first Sherm tank you see and start shooting everything. You’ll find the first moon shard right around the corner from where you start.
- Keep your Sherm (unlike the picture in the gallery above) and continue along the streets to the area full of rusted taxis. Shoot them all and make your way to the far right corner — there’s one more taxi tucked back in that corner. Shoot that one to reveal the next shard. (We did these out of order in the images above.)
- Head up the stairs, then use Cappy to reveal an invisible path to another Sherm to capture. Look across to the other side of the alley to see the next shard.
- Look back the way you came to find a few more Sherms to shoot and your next shard — you shoot this one to collect it.
- Head up the ramped beam you can see ahead of you and grab another Sherm. Stick to the left side of the alley and make your way all the way to the end. You’ll find the final moon shard all the way at the end of the alley behind some metal blocks.
Before you leave this spot, grab moon 42 below.
The moon will appear above a tarp down on the ground of the alley.
42. Sharpshooting Under Siege
Capture a Sherm and head down to the end of the left side of the alleyway from moon 41. Turn to look back the way you came. High above you on the left side (the right side of the alley from where you started), you’ll see a few metal blocks to shoot. When you hit them, a moon will appear and fly down to land near you — but still out of reach. Release your Sherm, then use Cappy to reveal an invisible walkway over to the moon.
43. Inside the Rotating Maze
Straight to the west of the park, there’s a small manhole cover you can capture. Move it out of the way and drop inside. Use Cappy to rotate the yellow walls out of the way and collect all five shards. Just watch out for Piranha Plant along the way.
44. Outside the Rotating Maze
Before you leave the Rotating Maze, backflip up onto the roof. Run straight across the roof, then look below you. The moon is on a ledge with a trampoline.
45. Hanging from a High-Rise
Go through the pipe at the end of the alley from moons 37 and 38. Capture the rocket on the other side to head to a new area. Navigate the poles all the way around the building to find your moon. (But make sure you grab moon 46 on the way.)
46. Vaulting Up a High-Rise
On your way to pick up moon 45, right before the turn to the other side of the building, there’s a pole that’s going up and down. Use the wall behind you to wall jump up to the pole above you. You’ll have to wall jump a couple more times to get all the way up to the platform with the moon.
47. Bullet Billding
A little north from the park next to the Main Street Entrance flag, there’s an alley that leads to the east. Go through the doors at the end of the alley to head to a(nother) new area. Navigate your way through the area using the poles and avoid the Bullet Bills to claim your moon at the end.
But make sure you grab moon 48 before you leave.
48. One Man’s Trash…
At the top of the first wall you climb on your way to moon 47, capture a Bullet Bill. Look back the way you came to find a dumpster on a platform. Ride the Bullet Bill over and crash into the dumpster to reveal your moon.
49. Motor Scooter: Escape!
There’s an open door on the northern corner of the triangular building that lies halfway between the Outdoor Cafe and the New Donk City Hall Plaza flags. Head inside and get ready to quote Jeff Goldblum.
Hop on the Scooter and just start riding for your life. Watch for the yellow lines on the ground — they’ll guide you to all of the rewards in the alley. The first moon to collect is on the left side of the screen after a large block of crates. You’ll get another moon (moon 50) before you leave here.
50. Big Jump: Escape!
Once you successfully evade the T. rex, you’ll land right in front of this moon.
51. Secret Path to New Donk City!
Super Mario Odyssey’s warp paintings are incredibly confusing. They seem to change from game to game in a way that, thus far, we can’t explain. (In fact, we’re perfectly open to the possibility that at least some of them are random, which would explain our consternation.) So we’re going to do two things here: show you how we found this secret path, and show you a gallery of all warp painting locations in the game.
The good news is that the locations of the paintings don’t change. However, the painting you see in a kingdom may be different. For example, we saw a painting of the Luncheon Kingdom in Wooded Kingdom. You may not. If that’s the case, check out the gallery below and make your way to another kingdom.
From the Sand Kingdom
For this moon, you’ll have to travel back to the Sand Kingdom. Warp to the Tostarena Ruins Round Tower flag, then go stand next to the Glydon looking east. There’s a tall pillar standing by itself next to a Jaxi stand. Capture the Glydon and fly down to the base of that pillar. Warp through the painting to travel to a secret area of New Donk City and discover this moon.
All warp painting locations in all kingdoms
The gallery above shows the locations of all warp paintings in Super Mario Odyssey. There’s a pattern, too: The first image shows you where you’ll stand on the map facing the painting, while the second image shows you what the painting looks like.
52. A Tourist in the Metro Kingdom!
To get this power moon, you need to beat the game and return to the Sand Kingdom. Remember the taxi that’s always been sitting in front of the town? Speak to a sombrero-wearing little guy near the taxi, who’ll tell you that he can’t wait to take a ride. Return to the Metro Kingdom and find him again. He’s right in front of you when you ride the wire to enter the city.
53. Found with Metro Kingdom Art
The hint for this moon is a piece of art high up on the wall of the triangular building from moons 49 and 50. You can get to the roof from the Rooftop Garden or the New Donk City Hall Rooftop flags. Head back to the Lake Kingdom, then to the top floor of the Water Plaza. Look for the Lochlady next to the shaft of water that leads to the roof. Ground pound the tile from the picture to find your moon.
54. Bird Traveling in the City
There are probably a dozen ways to get this power moon, but we chose this method because it’s reliable. In short, there’s a bird flying around New Donk City, and while its path is somewhat erratic and it occasionally changes altitude, there’s at least once place where it always flies: above the street to the north of the park. (You can see the bird and its path in gallery’s first image above.) Make your way to the top of one of the buildings, and wait for the bird to fly by. Jump off, fling Cappy at it, and collect your power moon.
55. Mario Signs His Name
Use Cappy to rearrange the letters in the southeast of New Donk City. Spell Mario, and you’ll get a power moon.
56. Surprise Clown!
To get this power moon, you’ll need to buy the clown outfit in Luncheon Kingdom first and then return to Metro Kingdom. While dressed as a clown in the Metro Kingdom, warp to the Outdoor Café flag and walk around the buildings to the northwest. (See the map in the gallery above.)
“Man, I could go for a laugh right now… If only there were a clown around!” a man in a light-colored suit will say. You’re just clown for the job. Keep talking and get yourself a power moon.
57. A Request from the Mayor
Warp to New Donk City Hall Plaza, and speak to Mayor Pauline. She'll ask you a series of questions. Your goal is to get four correct in a row. There’s no penalty for getting answers wrong, so feel free to guess. Frankly, there’s just no way you’ll know things like what she’s planning on having for dinner tonight.
Here are the four questions we got and their correct answers:
- Which of these things did I actually do a long time ago? Captured by ape.
- What do I play to eat for dinner tonight? Fried Mushrooms.
- What kind of music do I like? Peppy music.
- What do I do on my days off? Practice singing!
After answering correctly, she’ll tell you that it’s her birthday and that she loves presents. Warp to the Heliport and look over the western ledge. You’ll see an object below surrounded by spinning coins. Jump down and collect the object — a purse. Deliver that to Mayor Pauline as a birthday present, and she’ll give you a power moon.
58. Jammin’ in the Metro Kingdom
Speak to a Toad listening to music in the southeastern park. The hint is about “Revving a tiny engine!” You’ll get the song “RC Car” (it’s 80 in your list if you’ve done power moon 31. Remotely Captured Car or 32. RC Car Pro!) Play it, and you'll get a power moon and a bonus track from the moon.
59. Sphynx in the City
Use Cappy to capture the green binoculars near the Main Street Entrance warp flag, zoom in and scan the sky for a Sphynx flying through the air. (There are lots of taxis, too. Ignore them.) Keep it in your sights long enough, and you’ll get a power moon.
60. Free Parking: Leap of Faith
Getting this power moon is a lot like getting power moon 20 (Metro Kingdom Timer Challenge 2). In fact, it starts in the same place and in the same way. Here’s what you need to do:
- Warp to the Helipad, cross the steel structures between buildings and take the electrical wire to the top of New Donk City Hall.
- Get on the scooter and drive over the P-Switch.
- Drive your scooter off the building, following the checkerboard pattern. (Ignore the key.)
- When you’re heading south (check your compass), drive straight over the edge.
- Keep pushing up on your analog stick to get as much distance as you can. You’ll land on a building with a parking slot. (It’s the one with two air conditioning units and a man on it, too, but it’s sure hard to see from the air.)
- Park your scooter, and claim your power moon.
It might be easier to see this than read about it. Press play above to do just that.
61. Metro Kingdom Regular Cup
Like any race in Super Mario Odyssey, it pays to take shortcuts. There’s a great one in this cup:
- After your first jump, turn left and make your way to the building.
- Ground pound the red circle.
- Leap over the gap in the checkerboard floor that appears (jump, press Y, press Y again).
- Use Cappy and flick Mario across the gap to the next building. Aim for the balcony on the right, and leap again in the air to finish the jump.
For the final section, when you’re on the Volbonans traveling vertically up the building, make sure to press the direction you want to aim and then Y to throw Cappy. This is the most reliable way to hit your targets. Trust us: There’s nothing worse than losing a race in the final stretch.
Check out the video above to see this race in action.
62. Hat-and-Seek: In the City
On the streets of New Donk City, you’ll find many men walking. One of them, though, is wearing a hat that’s actually a Bonneter. Just walk around the city looking at the back of men’s hats. It shouldn’t take you more than a minute or two to find him and the power moon.
63. Powering Up the Power Plant
Warp to the Outdoor Café flag, and use Cappy to open the nearby manhole cover. Take the same route that you took earlier in the game, and you’ll find a new puzzle after you travel through the green warp pipe. Use Cappy to take control of the block and move around the board until you can slot it into the empty space above. Check out the gallery above to see the proper placement.
64. Up on the Big Screen and 65. Down Inside the Big Screen
Travel to the position on on the map shown above, and enter the building. You’ll see the original Super Mario Bros. on a theater screen. Enter the green warp pipe on the left to enter the game. Inside, there are two power moons to collect:
- Enter the fourth green pipe (it’s the one under the cloud) to find power moon 65. Down Inside the Big Screen.
- Play through the level, which is effectively world 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. There are five moon pieces scattered around. They’re not even hidden. You’ll come across them as you move to the end of the level. Collect them all, and you’ll receive power moon 64. Up on the Big Screen.
66. Peach in the Metro Kingdom
Travel to the position on the map above, and climb the building to meet Princess Peach, who has a power moon for you.
After the moon rock
The following moons are available after you defeat Bowser for the final time, return to the Metro Kingdom and smash the moon rock.
67. Hanging Between Buildings
Make your way to the triangular building on the east side of Main St., near the plaza. On top, you’ll find a big, red button. Ground pound it, and walk across the checkerboard platform that appears to collect this power moon.
68. Crossing Lines
Warp to the Outdoor Cafe flag, and take the electrical wire north. About halfway through your journey, press jump to collect the coins and the power moon.
69. Out of a Crate in the City
Warp to the Outdoor Cafe and wall jump between the buildings north of the flag. Smash the wooden crate on the roof, and jump and dive from the top of the water tower to collect the power moon on top of the Banana Bagels sign.
70. Bird Traveling in the Park
Warp to Mayor Pauline Commemorative Park, and look around for a glowing bird. Hit it with Cappy to collect your power moon.
71. Metro Kingdom Timer Challenge 3
Throw Cappy at the scarecrow to the west of Main St. by the RC car courses. You have very little time to collect this power moon, so roll and long jump at every opportunity.
72. Found in the Park! Good Dog!
Warp to Mayor Pauline Commemorative Park, and find a good little doggy. Follow him around and play with him. Eventually, you’ll get a power moon.
73. RC Car Champ!
This is another three-lap race at the indoor RC car track. You’ll need to be fast, which means not colliding with the wall, which seemed to be our specialty. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a bump or two, but try to minimize them. We got the power moon with a time of 25.94 seconds.
74. Metro Kingdom Master Cup
Coming soon …
75. Hat-and-Seek: In the Crowd
Warp to the Outdoor Cafe and enter the door in the building to the flag’s north. You’ll be in the hallway filled with pedestrians. One of them is wearing a Bonneter as a hat. Stand at the far end of the hallway so that the people are walking away from you, and look for the telltale eyes on a man’s hat.
76. Scaling Pitchblack Mountain and 77. Reaching Pitchblack Island
Warp to the Heliport, walk straight and fall down between the two buildings. Enter what looks like the top of a gray chimney to find two power moons.
- Power moon 77: Walk around to the back of the first level, opposite of the side where you entered. Toss cappy north, and you’ll reveal a hidden pathway to a platform in the abyss. Ground pound there for this power moon.
- Power moon 78: Make your way up Pitchblack Mountain, jumping off of the Stairface Ogre enemies to reach the higher levels. At the top, to jump off a Stairface Ogre, throw Cappy and dive jump to the pedestal where the power moon sits. That’s a fairly advanced move, so check out the GIF in the gallery above to see it in motion.
78. Swinging Scaffolding: Jump! and 79. Swinging Scaffolding: Break!
You can avoid most of the Hammer Bros and just run straight to your goal. There are two exceptions: The Hammer Bro on the beam in front of the wall. The easiest way up the wall is to use Cappy to take him over. You can also use Cappy on the second-to-last Hammer Bro just to get him out of your way. Check out the gallery above to see the places where you should use Cappy.
- Power moon 79: When you get to the part with two Hammer Bros in front of a wall, use Cappy to take over the Hammer Bro on the wall. Turn to the left, walk as far as you can, and use hammers to destroy a rock wall and reveal this power moon.
- Power moon 78: Make your way to the end of the stage to get this power moon.
80. Moto Scooter: Daredevil! and 81. Full-Throttle Scooting!
Warp to the Rooftop Garden flag and look north, down over the side of the building you’re on. You’ll see what looks like the top of a gray chimney. That’s your goal and the gateway to these two power moons. Run and jump to get there.
Inside, you’ll need to drive a scooter two places to get two moons. This is a bit of a trial and error kind of stage. You don’t spend much time on a scooter in the game, so the first few minutes will be about getting comfortable. We also got better quickly, after we figured these things out:
- If the controls feel weird, just think of them like controlling Mario in 2-D mario games where Y is running and B is jumping. The scooter is no different.
- Go straight as often as possible. It’s absurdly easy to drive off the side of this stage. Your best bet is to go straight and take the path that’s ahead of you, making small adjustments toward things like P-Switches in the distance.
- Break often. It’s easier to control the scooter when it’s slower, so if you need to make adjustments to your direction, it’s often better to break and then turn, rather than just turning. (The latter will probably just lead you off a ledge and to your death.)
- Don’t worry about coins. There are plenty of coins in Super Mario Odyssey and plenty to find in easier ways. You don’t need the ones placed on narrow pathways here. Stick to the paths that will take you to the end of the stage or the second moon.
- Don’t worry much about the Sherm tanks. You can drive right through them to kill them.
Check out the video above to see the paths we took to get both moons.
