The Exorcist TV show is still full of creepy children in its latest trailer

The power of television compels you

The Exorcist is returning in just a few months, and fresh from San Diego Comic-Con is a new teaser trailer highlighting its demonic ... fun? Possession? Wicked kid punches, at least.

The Exorcist is a new TV show that plays off the 1973 film and follows not one, but two priests trying to chase demonic spirits out of a family's life. Fox describes the show as a psychological thriller that will focus on the tension between Father Tomas Ortega and Father Marcus Brennan, who have different approaches to exorcism.

"Demons aren't real," says Father Tomas Ortega, establishing himself as The Very Wrong Priest. "They are metaphors."

To be fair, Ortega is also described as "the new face of the Catholic Church: progressive, ambitious and compassionate," in charge of a small parish in the Chicago suburbs, while Brennan is "a modern-day Templar Knight, an orphan raised since childhood by the Vatican to wage war against its enemies." Like, that second description sounds as believable as demons themselves.

Fox has shown off other creepy teasers for The Exorcist, alongside more of its upcoming shows, back in May. The series kicks off this fall and stars Alfonso Herrera (Sense 8), Ben Daniels (House of Cards) and Geena Davis (Thelma & Louise). Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) is directing the pilot.
