Pokémon's original singer goes back to the studio and still rocks it

Nearly 20 years after recording the original theme for the Pokémon anime, Jason Paige returned to the studio for this video and another crack at 90s kids' most beloved anthem. And he pretty much nailed it.

Paige's reprisal is so virtuoso to himself, you'd be forgiven for thinking he is lip-synching. (And in some shots he appears to be mouthing the backing vocals.) CNN has a longer feature on the man behind the song where you can hear Paige recount the tags he sung for the original theme, and when he redoes them in present day, they sound exactly like his vocals from 1998.

So if the point was to go back and sing this sucker exactly the way you heard it on your TV every afternoon of your childhood, then Paige straight-up delivered, audio tracks and takes be damned.

Now in its 19th season, Pokémon is one of the longest-running animated series in television history. Its 19th feature-length anime, Volcanion and the Exquisite Magearnapremiered in Japan two weeks ago.
