John Oliver, the British comedian who stars in HBO's weekly late night comedy series, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, has created a special video to celebrate Independence Day by listing all of the things Americans can't experience because of their decision to kick the British out in 1776.
Oliver goes over everything from delightful British accents to bowler hats as things America gave up when they decided to fight for their independence before giving in and admitting that separating was probably the smartest thing the nation could have done. Americans, he argues, are far more optimistic about life than British people and the world could use less cynicism.
The two-minute video is a web exclusive that the team put together in lieu of their regular show, which didn't air last night because of the holiday. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will return next Sunday at 11 p.m. ET on HBO.
