New Westworld trailer explores how dreams work

An insight into Dr. Robert Ford’s creepy, futuristic world

HBO’s upcoming sci-fi series from J.J. Abrams and Jonathan Nolan, Westworld, is set to debut in less than a month and today the network released a new trailer focusing on the world of dreams.

Based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 movie of the same name, Westworld is a "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin," according to the network’s official description. The show follows a group of people in a futuristic amusement park that’s run by artificial intelligence. Although everything seems fine at first, the patrons slowly realize that everything is not as it appears to be.

In the new trailer, some of those theme park attendees, including Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores Abernathy and James Marsden’s Teddy Flood start to learn more about the dream world they inhabit and how it works. There’s also an appearance from Anthony Hopkins, who plays Dr. Robert Ford, the creator and architect of Westworld and the mastermind behind everything that’s happening.

Westworld is set to premiere on HBO on Oct. 2 at 9 p.m. ET.
