The Simpsons returns this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET for its unprecedented 28th season. It’s well past its glory days, but animation lovers who have moved on to contemporary hits, like Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time, might want to tune in this weekend to catch a crossover between the new and old classics.
Adventure Time inspired the couch gag that opens The Simpsons’ premiere this weekend, but cable-less millennials can watch it above right now. It’s less inspired than, say, Oscar-nominated animator Don Hertzfeldt’s mind-bending couch gag or the Rick and Morty bit from last season, but it's a charming watch.
Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward even contributed a parody of his show’s theme song, tailor-made for the Simpsons family. Bart and Homer make for strange Finn and Jake stand-ins, but there aren’t really any perfect Adventure Time analogues in The Simpsons cast, so we’ll take what we can get.
Adventure Time hasn’t been around as long as The Simpsons, but after six years, its opening has become iconic too. Watch it below for a comparison between the original and The Simpsons parody.
