Cartoon Network’s popular animated series about a boy and his best canine friend, Adventure Time, is officially set to end after 148 episodes in 2018.
New episodes will continue to air regularly through 2018, with more information about the show’s final season going to be made available closer to its debut.
In a statement, Ward said that he was proud of being able to bring a quirky and weird show like Adventure Time to fans for as long as they have, and was looking forward to the next slate of projects that he’s going to dedicate his time to.
"We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I'm really happy that it connected with an audience for so long," Ward said. "It’s a special thing, I think."
Adventure Time, which follows the adventures of Jake the Dog and Finn the Human, premiered in 2010 and garnered 2.6 million viewers in its first year, making it a popular show on Cartoon Network. The show has been awarded multiple Emmys since it premiered and has become one of the most beloved series on the network.
Adventure Time is currently in its seventh season.
