Sigourney Weaver’s villainous character in Marvel and Netflix’s upcoming series, The Defenders, has been revealed.
Weaver will play Alexandra, an “utter badass,” according to showrunner Marco Ramirez. Ramirez told Entertainment Weekly he couldn’t give too much away about the character, but she’s powerful enough to draw the attention of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil and Iron Fist.
“Her character is a very powerful force in New York City,” Ramirez said. “She’s everything Sigourney is: sophisticated, intellectual, dangerous.”
Marvel first announced that Weaver, best known for her work in Alien and Ghostbusters, would be joining the series last October during a panel for Iron Fist at New York Comic Con. Ramirez confirmed she has no ties to the original Marvel comic book series and no alias, but is a force to be reckoned with. Ramirez added that Alexandra has an intellectual sophistication that matches Wilson Fisk, the villain played by Vincent D’Onofrio in Daredevil.
Entertainment Weekly also released the first look of Weaver’s Alexandra. In the photo above, Weaver can be seen in a building overlooking the New York skyline.
The Defenders, Netflix and Marvel’s last series that they’ve been building up to since Daredevil premiered in 2015, will be available to stream this summer. Iron Fist will debut on Netflix on March 17.
