Grab a cup of coffee and a slice of pie, Twin Peaks fans. FBI Agent Cooper is back in town.
Showtime released the new 30-second tease for the revival today and it’s all about Agent Cooper. Played by Kyle MacLachlan, Agent Cooper is one of the most adored and important characters in Twin Peaks. Although Showtime hasn’t released too much information about the series, creator David Lynch confirmed this week the events of quasi-prequel Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me would be very important to the revival’s storyline.
“I could say it’s the story of Laura Palmer’s last seven days,” Lynch said, as reported by Uproxx. “Very much important for this.”
Fire Walk With Me took place seven days before Palmer’s death and follows the murder of another Twin Peaks resident, Teresa Banks. The film also confirmed that Agent Cooper had died at the end of Twin Peaks’ second season; an ending that had been left ambiguous.
Showtime announced this week that Twin Peaks would return on May 21 with a two-hour premiere at 9 p.m. ET. The third and fourth episodes will be available to watch through Showtime’s streaming service for subscribers. There will be 18 episodes in total and Lynch is set to direct each one. There are no plans for a second season at this time, and Lynch has referred to the revival as a close-ended event.
