Less than a month after its Netflix debut, Marvel’s The Punisher has been renewed.

“He's just getting started. The Punisher will return for Season 2,” read a characteristically terse post on the show’s Facebook page, accompanied by a brief video:

The Punisher’s first season picked up where the character was left after his introduction in the second season of Daredevil. It followed the vigilante Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) as he dug deeper into his family’s senseless murder, uncovered a government conspiracy and allied himself with Micro (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), a former NSA agent. And in the midst of all that, the show attempted to weave in themes of the gun control debate in the United States and the struggles of veterans to adjust to civilian life.

Not much is known about where a second season might take the character. It seems unlikely that we’d get a third Punisher story that has him hunting down the last of his family’s killers. But the first season did set itself up nicely for a major Punisher villain from the comics to return and make life difficult for its protagonist.
