Netflix and Marvel have released a new featurette exploring just who Danny Rand is, but one of the more important revelations is that Madame Gao will make an appearance in Iron Fist.
Madame Gao first appeared in the first season of Daredevil, another of Marvel and Netflix’s series. In Daredevil, Madame Gao is a very powerful woman who runs her own illegal heroin trade out of Hell’s Kitchen. Together with Wilson Fisk, Vladimir and Anatoly Ranskahov, and Leland Owlsley, the group made up a criminal organization known as The Hand, which was introduced in Daredevil’s second season.

Including Gao in the featurette seems to hint that Iron Fist will see the inclusion of the villain and, possibly, members of The Hand. Following Iron Fist is The Defenders, which will see the four superheroes from the television universe (Iron Fist, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones) team up to take on a new villain. Although Netflix and Marvel previously confirmed Sigourney Weaver will be playing the main adversary, it makes sense to include members of The Hand as a way of giving the heroes a united baddie to take on.
The featurette also includes some more information about Rand’s time away in K’un L’un, where he was studying martial arts, but most of the information has already been released in previous trailers and clips.
Iron Fist will be released in full on March 17. Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are currently available to stream on Netflix.
